    MGS 2

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 08:58 AM PDT

Hello, I am currently playing through mgs2 and I'm kind of confused because in any play throughs and stuff that I've seen I've noticed that you play as Snake at the beginning. However, once I started playing, I started playing as raiden. Is this something to do with the questionnaire you get at the start of the game or something?

A somewhat serious bug/oversight in The Phantom Pain that I haven't seen anybody discuss.

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 12:16 PM PDT

Games as massive as The Phantom Pain are bound to have errors. The Diamond Dogs logo at OKB Zero, one of the later tapes unlocking two missions before it should, and typos in the subtitles as well as text on objects (e.g. "Quarantin" platform) are just a few examples that come to mind, but probably the most serious error is something I don't see anybody discuss.

Firing the main cannon of a tank creates a loud BOOM that will alert an entire enemy stronghold. Or rather, it should. For some reason, the weapons of both armored vehicles and tanks are completely silent. While the impact of a shot does produce an appropriate sound, the enemy AI doesn't react very well to attacks from combat vehicles, for two reasons:

    1. Enemies have a hard time spotting a hostile tank, even while you continue to blast them to smithereens. However, within a close enough range, they can still detect the flash from the cannon and trigger a combat alert.
    2. If a tank shell doesn't directly hit a soldier, enemies will investigate the site of the explosion instead of the tank that created it.

Here's a video that demonstrates how vehicle weapons are silent:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QdsAq8tsEc

The enemy AI is perfectly capable of responding appropriately to heavy/explosive weapons. Try firing grenades or rockets at an outpost from a distance, and you'll find yourself getting annihilated by mortar shells and eventually spotted from afar. This further suggests the silent cannons are an oversight - perhaps a leftover from testing. I suppose it's not too surprising that such an error made it into the finished game given how virtually nobody seems to know about it.

MGSV just got a small patch yesterday, so Konami clearly hasn't abandoned the game yet. The chance of a patch that fixes various bugs in the main game is quite unlikely, but I do hope the silent cannons get addressed before MGSV stops receiving official support.

Is there a book I can buy that explains the entire story of Metal Gear Solid (doesn’t necessarily have to include MGSV)?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 08:14 AM PDT

Just curious if anyone knows whether there's a book that explains the story. I don't mind if it doesn't include MGSV since I haven't finished it but I'm happy either way. I remember picking it up on release and putting a lot of hours in but for whatever reason I didn't finish it (doesn't seem to have a PS5 update if anyone can confirm?). I've played through MGS to MGS4 plus Peacewalker so just want to really wrap my head around the story as much as possible since I find it really interesting and have forgotten most of it (not reading just to brush up on my knowledge prior to 'replaying' and finishing MGSV but to get a good understanding of the entire lore in general). Books are my preferred form of media too since I love reading so if anyone has any recommendations please let me know.

MGSV TPP - Demon Points System. Good idea or bad?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 04:42 AM PDT

The game has a hidden karma system in which if Snake does any bad deeds like killing guards, animals, prisoners (Bonus points if killed via fire damage) or build nukes, his horn will grow exponentially and then he'll eventually turn into Demon Snake, a bloody unicorn soaked in ketchup permanently and cannot be washed off.

Personally, I think it's a bad idea because it makes me paranoid about killing. The game gives you all these lethal guns that you can customize to your hearts content but still punishes you for using them. I get the basic idea but this system feels like forced symbolism. I know some people don't mind and massive props to them for tolerating that shit, I cannot for the life of me stand seeing a bloody Snake.

Nowadays, I don't use any lethal guns to kill unless necessary and have since resorted to indirect kills such as using explosive barrels, drowning them, feeding them to wild animals or throwing them off a tall building/ledge, all because of that system. I now regularly place capture cages at the start of a mission or Side Op just to reduce DP just in case I killed someone.

I'm curious to know what's the general consensus is about the system.

PC Players don't have to worry about that shit as they have the ability to mod it out and disable it entirely.

    MGS1 HUD font?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 08:52 AM PDT

    MGS1 HUD font?

    Hey all,

I've been looking for what font is used for the UI elements in the first Metal Gear Solid. The best way I can describe which one I'm looking for are the text on the life gauge ("LIFE") and weapon/item names in the inventory. I have searched online and have found several fonts, but they are not the same ones used for these elements, at least it doesn't appear that they are. Anyone know if there is a font out there for these or one that could be close?

    Screenshot below for reference.

Imagine turning off the power and being able to hear and see mother base personnel talk and go there or if you knock out someone.

what's you favorite act in mgs4 ? and why ?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 10:13 AM PDT

MGS4 should have been much better

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 09:47 AM PDT

I just finished it last night, the ending seemed super forced and corny with the wedding and all. There seemed to be too much fan service and not any actual substance. I don't know, Solid Snake deserved a better ending in my opinion. Am I the only one who thinks this ?
