Which map of MGSV do you prefer more?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 03:38 PM PDT

I never think much about the 2 maps in MGSV. Curious to know which one people prefer. Is it the art style, graphics, environment, colors, terrain or gameplay that make you like one over the other?

Theory: The Boss is Big Boss’s Mother

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 04:12 PM PDT

In fact, I'm certain. The Boss was 13 when Big Boss was born. That's old enough to get pregnant and have a child. There is no data on Big Boss's parents, nor what his childhood is like. I'm guessing that his father is one of the philosophers. He was probably taken away when he was born like Ocelot was. It would also explain why she was "drawn to him" when they first met. When Big Boss talks about his relationship with her he says that part of him belonged to The Boss and that they were more than just friends, soldiers, or lovers. The only bond stronger than all this is family.

Remember, this isn't the first time she randomly ran into her son on the battlefield. You have to do a lot of digging and dot connecting to even figure out that the Boss and The Sorrow are Ocelot's parents!

In the context of everything, it makes so much sense. His relationship with ocelot is actually more like a brotherly rivalry. They've got their differences (fathers) but they are cut from the same cloth (mother). It makes it then very fitting that Liquid and Ocelot, now technically Uncle and Nephew, have so much synergy.

Again, Ocelot is used to playing little brother even with his brother's Body Double and perfect clone. Instead of this weird obsession that gets projected on to Ocelot, the reading is now, hey, he's just hanging with his bro.

I am open to this theory being debunked, but I haven't come across anything that says it isn't true.

Should solid snake be called big boss ?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 04:01 PM PDT

I m just almost finished with mgs 3 and I m In the boss battle with the boss. So I was wondering if naked snake became big boss through defeating the boss then shouldn't solid snake be given the title of the boss too? Since he "killed" big boss ?

does anyone know this youtube video?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 03:45 PM PDT

this description is probably going to sound vague, but it's all i remember of it. i've tried searching "mgs3 tricks" on youtube and didn't find it, but basically it was (i believe a) japanese guy playing the game, i don't think there was any commentary, but it was him just fucking around with the npcs in the game and doing really crazy and amusing stuff by manipulating the game with very high level play. i can't even explain exactly what he was doing because i don't remember.

What happens to the subject of a failed Wormhole Fulton Extraction?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 03:45 PM PDT

I just failed to extract a tank via Wormhole Fulton during a sandstorm (which I didn't know was possible), and it had me wondering where the tank could have gone. As opposed to it just floating away and eventually crashing from a normal Fulton balloon failure, I am pondering where the Wormhole device would have taken it, seeing as it won't show up at my Mother Base, and it didn't fall back onto the ground before me. I ask mostly to see what may have been said in the game about this, or if this is not explained, what anyone may think happens in this particular circumstance.

How do you feel about Peace Walker's approach to cutscenes compared to that of the other games?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 03:24 PM PDT

I'm pretty new to these games. Recently finished TPP and adored it, then beat MGS3 and adored it, and am currently working on Peace Walker. One of the many things that have really made me fall in love with these games is the cinematography, if that term can be applied to games. I love cutscene-heavy games and it's no great secret that MGS is in a class of its own in those terms. With all that in mind, I felt a little disappointed learning that Peace Walker's cutscenes are illustrated rather than "rendered" if I'm using that word right.

I would have loved to see 1973 Snake in all his glory in the cutscenes, but I have to admit the sheer artistry of Yoji Shinkawa illustrating all of it is super cool in itself. I love the haggard, messy look that he gives Snake in Peace Walker. What are y'all's thoughts on it? Any insights into why they chose to this direction for Peace Walker? I've heard that I think Portable Ops had a similar style so maybe I should be asking about that instead, though I haven't played it. Come to think of it, I guess the limitations of the PSP probably dictated what they were able to do with the cutscenes in those games.
But do you prefer the comic-book-esque style of it or would you have preferred it the other way? What was the reaction when the game came out?

MGS 1 (1998) - Almost all codec conversations - compilation

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 11:34 AM PDT

I reuploaded into Youtube a recording I made years ago with almost all codec conversations from the original Metal Gear Solid (1998) game, released for the PlayStation 1. Youtube limits videos to 12 hours or 128 GB, so it's splitted into 2 videos:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-hAea-eYz8

Part 1 has 11 hours and 57 minutes, part 2 has 3 hours:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smj5RrD2JQ0

Part 3 is a short 2 minute video with alternate dialogue at the beginning, that I missed when recorded:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl2V5fL0RWY

And part 4 this time was not recorded from the PS1, but from the PC version (in HD quality):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENlRyki-Dso

This last part has 4 minutes and features another missing bit from my first recording: the dialogue between Master and Snake, about crows/ravens, towards the ending.

This was a random recording (with GameShark codes enabled) so that's why it's that way. There is a full text dump published on GameFAQs that is perhaps the one and only source where all codec conversations can be found, in written text:

    https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197909-metal-gear-solid/faqs/15129

I have no idea how the author accomplished this. I also must point out two major "issues" that remain unsolved to this day, and if someone is willing to fix it would be great (or if a project similar to what I did exists, I am interested in finding out). I can't do what I am going to explain below because it would take too much time not only to watch the contents, also to organize the dialogues in a PDF, HTML or TXT file:

    1) How many more codec calls are missing from my recording. That is a good question. For example, the ones we can hear when playing using the original PS1 console (not the emulator) and fighting Psycho Mantis - you know, the bits where we switch controls, or when Mantis reads our memory card and says a few specific things. Then there are some possible "easter eggs" missing, like Ocelot being disappointed if we lose the fight against him multiple times (this is mentioned here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFrRXthOWmA )

I assume that GameFAQs link is the best source to find out what else is missing. But there's another problem: all the full text dump is mixed together, so it's just random data that makes no reference to a specific moment, the whole thing is not even in proper order.

    2) Then I would have to organize what I already did (these 4 parts) and create another PDF or TXT file writing in what moment of these videos each dialogue starts.

For example: let's say I want to locate this codec conversation:

    1. 0x7a48a4: How well armed are these terrorists? (this is what is said when this specific codec call started)
    2. 0x7a48dc: I know there was an exercise going on at the time they revolted.
    3. 0x7a4930: They're heavily armed, I'm afraid.
    4. 0x7a4964: What about their battle experience?
    5. 0x7a4998: The six members of FOX-HOUND in charge are all hardened veterans.
    6. 0x7a49ec: They're tough enough to eat nails and ask for seconds.
    7. 0x7a4a34: I wouldn't expect anything less from FOX-HOUND.
    8. 0x7a4a78: The others are Next-Generation Special Forces.
    9. 0x7a4ab8: They're not your average grunts, either. (this is when the codec call ends)

Let's assume the first line "How well armed are these..." starts at 35 minutes and 22 seconds from my 11h57m video (part 1). Then I would have to organize it that way (in my PDF/TXT):

    35:22
    - Solid Snake: How well armed are these terrorists?
    - Campbell: I know there was an exercise going on at the time they revolted.
    - Snake: They're heavily armed, I'm afraid.

And so it goes. Now imagine doing that for all conversations? That's why after years I haven't even touched this again, because it would consume much of my time.

For idea 2) something similar was done with Resident Evil 1 (1996). Check part 1 here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG3xNhZey4M

As you can see in the above video, the pinned comment makes reference to the exact moment of the video where we can see that scene. The benefit of idea 2) is that we can skip to said exact moment just by using that user comment which has a hyperlink to that moment from the video.

    For example,
    C. Return to the Mansion ------------------------ - Scene 1. Hunter CGI: 3:18:35

If you click on 3:18:35 (which is 3 hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds) then you will skip to that part of the game from the Youtube page. Meaning idea #2 would be great for Youtube and could also in the future be useful to have an organized compilation from all possible codec calls from this game, which are many. Of course, for Resident Evil it was much easier, since it has much less content.

Am I the only one who thinks that MGSV lacks cosmetic variety and cosmetic options?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 09:07 AM PDT

MGSV has a few fatigues with different camo patterns (some of them look really cool and others are just meh), a bandana, a Black Sneaking suit which you can upgrade, The Battle Dress and the Sneaking Suit from GZ which you can also upgrade, The Biker outfit, The parasite suit, MGS1 Snake and Grey Fox, Raiden (Which you have to complete all missions with an S rank! ) and then a hand full of MGS3 outfits which you have to pay for. Maybe I missed a few

Like I said, they could of done a better job with the fatigues. Add some more colorful military camo patterns (kinda like MGS3) and let us modify the fatigues themselves like, long sleeves, short sleeves, cargo pants all the way down, different accessories etc. Also let us put ammo belts on them, I would love to roleplay as Rambo. Let us change the color of the bandana. The GZ suit looks scuffed in TPP, it lacks the shininess and colors of the GZ version. Make the Biker suit look more Terminator like. Make the Battle Dress less bulky. Add some more mask options kinda like MGS4 and make HD rendered versions of the Snake and Grey Fox outfits. Also bring back sombrero Raiden

These are some of my ideas. What do you think of them? and how would you have changed the cosmetics in this game?

Weird brown skin bug on some characters MGS2

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 08:19 AM PDT

I decided to play MGS2 but on pcsx2 instead of the PS3 version, it has a weird bug where Ocelot's skin goes brown when he gets controlled by liquid, Fatman is fully brown and Vamp too except for his face. Think it might be related to the emulator or this was a ps2 issue too?

    Spinning the SAA in MGS3?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 01:20 PM PDT

So, I've been playing a lot of Snake Eater lately and from browsing around I learned that in the original game and Subsistence you could spin the revolver, with the right stick.

I'm playing MGS3 on the Xbox 360 port, and I was curious if any of y'all knew if that feature was brought over or not?

Anything helps, I haven't been able to find any info about this feature on the 360 version.
