Full list of MGS3's Cut Content...

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 11:52 AM PDT

Taken from MGSWiki, The Snake's Soup and FacePunch (RIP).

These include all 5 versions of SE, from vanilla, to Subsistence, to HD, to 3DS and Pachislot.

    SNAKE EATER: VANILLA

    WEAPONS

    • Flamethrower: Boss was gonna be able to use the flamethrower like the enemies could in game, all physics and code was already implemented, was probably removed case of balance issues, and imagine using that against The Fury. Later reused for MGO.

    ITEMS:

    • Cardboard Box D: Was going to be the fourth version of the cardboard boxes in game, probably was going to take Boss to another location that didn't end up getting implemented or just not practical/unnecessary.

    SUBSISTENCE

    OUTFITS:

    • Skull Suit: Boss was going to be able to use Raiden's Skull suit from SOL, probably to complement the Raikov mask, most likely a silly outfit and would have somehow let you play as a fake Raiden altogether, probably removed cause, it doesn't make sense and its unnecessary, not to mention Raiden is thinner and shorter than Boss so, that probably interfered with the animations. Later reused for Secret Theater.

    SNAKE EATER: HD EDITION

    MAPS:

    • Brown Town: The map from PO was going to be in the game, unknown why since story wise, it makes no sense, not only that but, there is no MGO in the HD ver. Maybe they were planning on adding a game mode for such?

    ITEMS:

    • Monkey Mask: The mask from Subsistence was going to return.

    GAME MODES:

    • Snake vs. Monkey: The fun mode from Subsistence was going to return, obviously removed due to licensing issues.

    SNAKE EATER: 3DS

    GAME MODES:

    • Extra Ops: Just like PW and TPP, SE3DS was going to include special missions that would have been required to finish in order to have 100% completion, 5 modes were at least fisnished, although is unknown if more modes were going to exist. The modes were going to be:
    • CD04: Claymore Disarmament
    • CD05: Claymore Disarmament
    • CB01: Attack Chopper Battle
    • CB02: Attack Chopper Battle
    • CB03: Attack Chopper Battle

Unique sound files for the mode also existed.

    PACHISLOT

    SEGMENTS:

    • The Sorrow boss fight: Boss was going to face The Sorrow in this version as well, but while the stage was 50% finished, they decided to cut it out, probably do to lack of practicality.

A crossover fanfic for Metal Gear and Neptunia i'm writing.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 01:19 PM PDT

Washed up on the shore of Colombia. With no memories of her past. Only her name, Neptune, she joins an army with no country. A nation with no flag. She becomes a soldier with no borders.

Small detail I just noticed about the blood mechanic (spoilers)

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 08:59 AM PDT

I don't know if this is scripted and meant it happen, but after the mission Metallic Archaea where you fight the skulls, I got beat up pretty badly so Snake was really bloody, the game has a dirty mechanic where snake gets bloodier but of course you can wash it off in the shower or in rain. During the cutscene where you cure the parasite Snake was still bloody, but after the scenes were complete and he's walking towards the helicopter with Kaz it's raining and I noticed the blood actually coming off during the cutscene. I haven't played the game in 5 years so I don't know if it just does this because it's scripted or not? If not that's such a subtle detail that i really appreciate.

Full list of MGS4's Cut Content...

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 10:47 PM PDT

All this has been gathered from MGSWiki and FacePunch (RIP).

Most of the stuff listed was found by a user on FacePunch, I remember people talking a lot about the CQC counter and ACT3's content.

    SEGMENTS:

    • Big Mama's escort mission: After defeating Raging Raven, Snake and Big Mama go to the sewers, in order to get to the pyx, were they have to avoid Gekkos equipped with chemical weapons, and possibly Dwarf gekkos. Snake has to protect her and try to get through the area, mice giving away gekko positions and opening water gates, Snake also has to inject Big Mama once in a while to raise her stamina.

    • Shadow Moses Nuclear Warhead B1 Commander's Room/Wolfdog Cave: Snake was gonna be able to revisit the location were he fought Psycho Mantis, and even have flashbacks about it, Snake was probably also able to revisit the Wolfdog Cave as well.

    MAPS:

    • Tomb of Tubes: This area was going to be used for the Big Mama escort mission. Later reused for MGO.

    • Ravaged Riverfront: Unknown what exactly the purpose was for ACT3, but judging by the interior sections of it, could have been related to the Resistance arrest, maybe it was a capture location for Snake, and heavily guarded by the PMC. Later reused for MGO.

    • Shadow Moses Lake: An area were Snake could take a shortcut through the Canyon. Snake could also shoot the ice in order to sink the Gekkos.

    • B1 Commander's Room: Was the area for Snake's revisit in ACT4.

    WEAPONS:

    • Colt Python: The only revolver that would have been in the game, was probably replaced by the Race Gun.

    • FAMAS: The iconic assault rifle from MGS1/TTS, it was probably going to be obtainable in ACT4 like the MK23.

    • XM8 Compact: A smaller version of the XM8, which was used by Johnny Sasaki. Later reused for MGO.

    • Shield: A shield that could protect from serious attacks, probably removed cause it didn't fit Snake's skillset, although it would have definitely come in handy in some segments. Later reused for MGO.

    ITEMS:

    • Binoculars: Obviously removed cause Snake already had the Solid Eye. Later reused for MGO.

    OUTFITS:

    • Nomad: Snake was going to be able to use his regular nomad clothes during gameplay. (This one is still in the files, can be unlocked by mods)

    • MGS2 Sneaking Suit: Snake was going to be able to use the sneaking suit he wore during SOL, unknown why it was removed since that is like THE COOLEST SHIT EVER!

    ANIMATIONS:

    • Big Mama's call: An animation that Snake could do to keep Big Mama on track during the escort. Later reused for MGO.

    • Big Mama's pull up: An animation that was going to let Snake help Big Mama get on top of object and/or levels. Later reused for MGO.

    • CQC Expert counter: Unknown how exactly this would have fit, which makes me believe that they were going to add a counter for enemies attacks, making the gameplay a little more expandable, however probably never implemented cause it would have made Snake too overpowered. Later reused for MGO.

    CODEC CALLS:

    • Dr. Madnar: Referenced Snake's rescue of Madnar and his daughter Ellen from Outer Heaven and indirectly referenced Madnar's antagonism of Snake in Zanzibar Land, and also gave some further details about Madnar and Ellen during this time.

    • Big Mama's Escort: Otacon was going to be able to tell Snake about the location as well as keeping him updated, telling him about the Gekkos equipped with chemical weapons, how to open water gates, Snake telling Otacon about the mice, warning him about Big Mama's danger, how to help Big Mama, and getting angry with Snake for hurting Big Mama.

    • Surveillance Camera: Otacon was going to make fun of Snake's iconic "A surveillance camera?" quote.

    • Ladies Room: Otacon questions Snake for reminiscing the ladies restroom on B1, Snake also speaks about meeting Meryl in there for the first time.

    • Commander's Room: Otacon once again questions Snake for been in the location, but Snake tells him that he is reminiscing, however Otacon tells him that he cant go through there as the pathways to the Communication Towars have probably collapsed, but tells him that he can move the bookshelf if he wants too.

    • Liquid Ocelot boss fight: Apparantly, Snake could call Rosemary and Otacon one last time during the battle, Otacon and Rosemary telling Snake to defeat Ocelot at all costs.

    MGS GZ is Peak Kojima

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 07:22 PM PDT

Directorially and tonally, I think GZ showcases the best of Kojima. Ignoring the runtime, I think what we got is consistently better than anything else from the mgs series. The atmosphere, the prison camps, the phenomenal cutscenes, are executed with such perfection I'm saddened we didn't get something similar for phantom pain. This game truly is the most grounded (pun intended) game in the mgs series. I think this is in part to having other writers on board like with mgs3.

The rain, the soundtrack, the vehicle, camera and everything is set up perfectly. I can keep gushing on the exceptional details in this game. I just wished we got more of this mgs. So much love in this tiny mgs package

MGSV: The Future of FOB - Online "Crab Mentality" ('Content' from mutual sabotage)

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 01:38 PM PDT

    Hello There! Disabled gamer here!

Why mention that? because MGSV takes a super duper long time for me to successfully capture a guard post - THANKFULLY there's even a step up from the chicken hat, the chicken-egg hat which enables me to progress through the story like most normal-able players.

Issue is, mission 22, attack happened, and I was bummed to see that this 'online-fight-others-working-towards-the-same-goal' mechanic was not only still present but required. Taking the last week to research the topic more, there doesn't appear to be any work around for this.

The issue here is, I'd like to progress in the story. But I can't due to a number of reasons:

1: The bulk of my staff were killed, dropping me below the requirements for better gear.
2: Playing offline, while I can keep acquiring soldiers, I'm limited to 100 per section of the home base, AND 90% of all resources are stolen from me and put online...where they're stolen by human players, and then another 90% of my 10% is taken as well.

This wouldn't be an issue if 1: I could opt out of it. or 2: Human players wouldn't do in a fictional game, what real people do in the world (Take advantage of people because "Hey, they're not/can't fight back.") That 2nd option, just seems the much less reasonable of possible options.

So my hope is, counter to every other series I've watched for over 30 years, that the Konami servers will shut down, rendering the ability to store/steal items unable. Where the game will truly be a metal gear game, solo. Taking on a fictional world...instead of the fictional world attacking other living breathing human beings who have poured weeks and hours into a game just for the game to say "Hey! See that other person! They want the same thing as you do! You should..." "Help them out?" "Help? No! Go ruin their day, destroy everything they've worked on." "But ...I don't want to." "That's ok, no one is forcing you to, but just know, nothing is stopping anyone else from taking everything you've worked for. Isn't that fun!?" "No...it's depressing. Super real and depressing."

I do enjoy this game, the mechanics, the story, and the way D-Dog has no mercy when told to 'Go Get 'em'. My issue is, the game isn't real, and I've enjoyed escaping a bit to to that fiction. But now with this, it's a bit too much with others.

Been with the Metal Gear series since the 80's and while tough, thankfully I've scraped through all of the games (even portable ops). Though this "Other players can remove your progress, and your only work around is to pay real $, or 'retaliate' and perpetuate the chimpanzee-mentality." Is a bit too much for me.

Anyways, I'm sure there will be many constructive conversations. My sympathies to those who felt obligated to pay more and perpetual 'protection racket' money to 'protect' their efforts...from a group who manufactured the problem to begin with. It saddens me.

What's the best way to pay Metal Gear Solid (PS1) in 2021 on my PC?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 01:05 PM PDT

Is the simple answer, emulation? Is there a mod out there that improves performance or textures? What's the best way to play this game for the first time?

What is the cassette player on The phantom pain?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 12:49 PM PDT

I've been having a cassette era fever and was wondering if anyone knew the model of the cassette player venom uses during the big reveal ending. Thank you.

Edit: or the handheld one he uses throughout the game, if it even exists in the real world.

    Which one?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 07:59 AM PDT

Now playing a MGS game with the same graphic on any console that you have is really good but what about a remake or remastered version of for example only 3 of them? (let's just say MG1, MGS1, MGS2) And also on any platform because we definitely deserve that.

Should i get the MGS HD Collection for 2 and 3 or stick to the PS2 originals?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 08:51 AM PDT

I was wondering if the MGS HD Collection on PS3/360 is a better experience than playing the original games on PS2 (substance and subsistence) since i already own the PS2 games but not the HD collection. Is it worth buying the HD collection or are the originals just as fine? I want the most authentic experience with these games (one of the reasons I played MGS1 over Twin Snakes)
