Are any of the pre-MGS1 powers ever explained?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 12:21 PM PST

My favorite part of the MGS series is that sometimes characters have seemingly magic powers for no reason. It's really cool and adds to the charm of the games. I know The End had a Quiet parasite or something and that most of the powers after MGS1 can be explained away as just "nanomachines" but anyway, are any of the other characters powers ever explained? Like The Pain can just control hornets because why not and Volgin has lightning powers. Also The Fear.

I think it's still cool and kinda funny if it's never explained but I've also been sorta curious. Also The Sorrow and Psycho Mantis.

    I'm having MGS withdrawals

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 01:02 PM PST

Recently beat Death Stranding and while it had its moments, I just feel a bit underwhelmed by it. Especially going for completion is nowhere near as rewarding as MGSV was for example. Thinking about this, all of a sudden I got this crazy longing for an MGS6. I don't think I felt this since before MGSV came out. That kinda hype, I'm feeling it for some reason.

I mean, imagine the graphics of Death Stranding with the gameplay of MGSV. All that freedom in how you tackle a mission but with that insane level of detail as found in DS. What if it actually was finished and had all the little tricks and quirks that we all want in a Kojima game. As well as lots of easter eggs, which both MGSV and DS were seriously light on.

I kinda fear those days are over, what with Kojima wanting to try horror next, but I really feel there's a sure fire hit of a game if he went back to stealth and made some kind of spiritual successor to MGS. Just without the name and without the baggage I guess, which would probably make for an easier story to enjoy.

I don't know, what do you think? I feel that would be such a perfect turn of events. Especially if Kojima made up with Hayter and made a really similar kind of game just without the IP. I think that would score so many points with the fans and even non-fans and would probably sell much better as well, seeing as Death Stranding is struggling to stay on the charts.

It's starting to feel like a no-brainer decision to me at this point, not unlike how it's a no-brainer decision for Konami to get some remasters out for the MGS games, mainly MGS4 at this point. I don't know, man...there's just some things in gaming you can't understand.
