    How MGS2 feels

    Posted: 21 Nov 2021 07:30 AM PST

Is this worth it? I’ve only ever played MGS5 (never completed but had a lot of fun) and I’d really like to play the others but I’m not sure if this is the right collection to get.

A story about my Father and Metal Gear Solid

    Posted: 20 Nov 2021 10:42 PM PST

The year was 2002. It had been a few months since the death of my Mother and it was my 12th birthday. My father had taken me out to a mall to choose some gifts, and naturally I wanted to get some video games.

I had got a PS2 (and a Gamecube) for Christmas, and I was enjoying it (but not as much as my SEGA Dreamcast) and I was looking through some games where a game caught my eye. Metal Gear Solid 2. I had heard a lot about this game from some of my friends and how awesome it was, however I never really got to experience it myself. I bought Metal Gear Solid 2 as well as a few other games and went home.

Now there is something I need to say about my father. He is a bank worker, however he has an obsession with spies. His dream job when he was a kid was to become a spy like James Bond, however due to certain medical conditions, he was unable to be qualified to join. So when I started the game, he took an immediate interest in it.

That was when we both fell in love with the world of Metal Gear. Both of us took turns playing the game, trying to see who can get through without any alerts, trying to see who can complete a level the fastest, etc. He even went as far as calling me 'Raiden' whenever he was out with friends as a joke.

When we got a copy of Metal Gear Solid, and we enjoyed playing it together. We loved the story and I can remember we spent hours getting stuck on the Psycho Mantis battle and my father had to ask a friend he knew what to do.

When Metal Gear Solid 3 came out, my father got it for me as a 'early Christmas present', and we spent the entire weekend playing it together, and he even considered calling my school to let me know that I was sick so that we can continue having fun together. I can even recall when we went to a water park one summer and when we were climbing a ladder to a water slide, my father was singing 'Snake Eater' under his breath. We even had an encounter with Kojima even if it was for less than a minute it was awesome to see him in the flesh.

When MGS4 was announced, we still got a PS3 day one regardless of the $599 price tag, because we wanted to play it.

When it finally came out we played it together almost all summer. It was a very emotional experience. When the debriefing cutscene played, my father gave me the longest hug he ever gave me. He said that cutscene remined him of his relationship with his estranged father, and how he wanted to be a better father figure.

I told him that playing games together was the most fun I had with him and that I enjoyed playing with him and that he was the best father anyone could ask for. My father cried in front of me for the first time in years.

    I love you dad.

    Rest In Peace.

    1964 - 2021

Edit: Another memory I had was when Snake was announced for Smash Bros Brawl me and my dad were hyped, even more so when Sonic was announced (a game franchise my Mom loves) and we also had lots of fun playing it.

Not sure if this belongs here, but decided to sketch Raiden from MGR after 3 years of not drawing. Might colour and refine it a bit at some point

Since my my Ps3 broke and I couldn't replay metal gear rising I made this

    Posted: 20 Nov 2021 05:33 PM PST

You know when you think about the ending of MGS2 it's kind of crazy from an outsider's perspective. This giant machine crashes into New York City. The current president is assassinated and the former president is found dead at Federal Hall in a weird cyberpunk suit!?

    Blinking stats when recruiting soldiers

    Posted: 21 Nov 2021 03:40 PM PST

So I getting back into metal gear solid 5 since my old file won't transfer from Xbox to PC and its been a while. Is there any meaning behind a specific department blinking when looking at soldiers stats. For example, I just knocked out a guard and I use the scope to look at his stats and see if I want him and his medical icon is blinking but it's not even his highest Stat, does it mean anything?

    About Big Boss...

    Posted: 21 Nov 2021 08:22 AM PST

What was Big Boss doing anyway while Venom Snake was going through the events of mgs5?
I am not that deep into metal gear lore so I'm interested.

What Naomi was going to tell Snake right before Campbell's interrupted her?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2021 08:03 AM PST

I finished MGS1 yesterday, and I wondered what Naomi would tell Snake right before she was caught.

She had already exposed the whole FOXDIE thing to Snake, that it wasn't her decision to inject it on him, and yet she still had something important to tell him.

She said something in the likes: ..."the truth is... Snake... I..."

Finished MGS1 for the first time, it was just as great as everyone said it was. Got recommended this by a friend as the only stealth series I properly played prior were Splinter Cell and Hitman

Do we have more context on Zanzibar land?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2021 04:29 PM PST

For example we know how venom snake built up diamond dogs and how Miller and ocelot helped him, but do we know more about how big boss built up Zanzibar land? Like did anyone help him? Was he working with someone? Did go into the field like venom did and maybe do missions or Fulton soldiers?

Metal Gear Solid 1 save files for DuckStation emulator

    Posted: 21 Nov 2021 05:33 AM PST

While playing MGS1 on DuckStation, I had some trouble swapping from disc 1 to disc 2. At first I thought that maybe my CD was physically damaged, but it turned out that the switch wasn't working because of the settings I used in the emulator (I advise you to NOT use the No-GUI version of the program) and I had to restart. This meant that I lost quite a bit of progress. Naturally I looked around for some save files online so that I could start from the beginning of Disc 2, and I found nothing. I thought that I would fix that shortcoming now that I've finished the game.

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5t2bnhu74ox88lq/AABSmAX2ZV5fCxjmqdj0jX5Sa?dl=0

There are three files. The first one has 14 or 15 save files from various points in Disc 1, the second has 10 or 11 save points from Disc 2, including after the end, and the third one is a "shared" memory card that has a save file from the end of Disc 1 and another from the beginning of Disc 2.

Disclosure: This is the first time that I've ever played MGS1. I'm no expert or speedrunner, and if you're looking for a save file with a maxed inventory or the "good" ending then you're out of luck. I'm just providing these saves because someone with computer/emulator troubles may need them. I can't believe only one other person (as far as I know) has uploaded MGS saves, and those are for ePSXe so they don't help me anyway.

For anyone who gets stuck at the CD switch, or some difficult section of the game, I hope this helps.

    Two NES Metal Gear questions

    Posted: 21 Nov 2021 03:03 PM PST

    1. Why weren't Theme of Tara and its prelude theme remixed for the NES version? I'm sure they would have sounded great like that.
    2. How many different versions of Just Another Dead Soldier were there? Here's what I know fore sure:

    MSX2

    NES

    PS1

    GBC

Mgs 2/3 on Xbox one or ps3?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2021 02:44 PM PST

I have a ps3 for mgs4 purposes and that collection has mgs 2 and 3 in the disc

I also have the marseille mclassic 4K upscale device: https://www.marseilleinc.com/buy-mclassic/

I also have the mgs 2/3 Hd collection title on my Xbox one (I guess it's a 360 title?)

My question is are there any benefits to running mgs 2/3 on my Xbox one vs ps3 with the mclassic?

I think ps3 is best since the Xbox title is same release but wasn't sure
