What do you think is the weirdest thing that happens in Metal Gear?

    MGS1’s Atmosphere is Simply Unmatched

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 07:00 AM PST

Metal Gear games have always had great atmospheres in their settings like MGS2's sleek and smooth atmosphere in the Big Shell and MGS3's very open and outdoorsy jungle atmosphere. But I think the atmosphere in MGS1 is the best.

MGS1's atmosphere has a very cold and dark feel to it that I simply love. I always liked how the snowy areas looked outside of Shadow Moses that look great even with PS1 graphics, as well as the interiors of the base that have a very neat and rough look to them. I like how the game makes use of darker colors that gives many areas a unique look to them. Just the overall feel of the game is just perfect.

At times there are some elements of horror in MGS1 like when you enter an air vent, you hear this very spooky and ominous sound which is a great example of sound design. Also when you see the hallway before entering Otacon's lab after Gray Fox kills those Genome Soldiers, the blood all over the walls and the dead bodies on the floor also give a unique horror element which I always thought was a very good design detail. The elements of horror really add to the atmosphere of MGS1 and the horror themes wouldn't make a return until MGS3 with The Sorrow.

The music definitely adds to the atmosphere of MGS1. I really think that Kojima had just the perfect tracks that fit with the sneaking and the overall feel of the game. A soundtrack that's only matched (in my opinion) by MGS2. Even though MGS1 has less tracks than MGS2, I feel like MGS1's songs are so perfectly placed within the numerous environments, emotional cutscenes, and riveting battle sequences.

Even though MGS1 is a PS1 game from 1998, the atmosphere is simply unmatched and the game is much more than the sum of it's polygons and pixels.

MGS originally planning to end on 3

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 11:45 PM PST

This just doesn't make any sense. Let's ignore 3 and just look at what it means for Solid. It's safe to say that 4, if it's 100% true that Kojima wanted the series to be a trilogy, wasn't conceived during 2.

So, let's look at 2 if the series had ended with 3.

Crap. Absolute D-Dogsh**. There is no resolution whatsoever to absolutely anything and there are people out there saying it should've ended at 3.

Ocelot up and escapes with Ray and destroys Manhattan and that's just completely ignored, you see Vamp, a mass murdering terrorist is still alive in the final cutscene and that is also ignored, the Patriots, who the villian of the game wanted to destroy whilst both protagonists ignorantly protected remain as it was, so there's no moment like in 4 where they both seek to right that wrong. It just ends with both villians winning, Ocelot and the Patriots AND Vamp, whilst it's played off as if it's a happy ending with Snake motivating Raiden and ignoring every single thing that has not gone right, which is everything. If this was the ending to Solid and Raiden's story as Kojima had planned, then that is some Discord RP levels of crap writing.

Why Midge Ure created his version of “The Man Who Sold The World”

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 07:39 PM PST

Here's a link to vid, he starts talking about it at 6:27 and even sings it at the end

Tldr- The people who made a film called "Party Party" (1983) asked Midge if he'd create his own cover of a song from any artist and he decided to choose David Bowie's "The man who sold the world"

Unpopular opinion: Kiefer Sutherland was a better Big Boss voice actor than David Hayter.
