New detail I found in mgs v!!

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 10:36 AM PDT

I don't know if it's well known but I noticed a new detail in the quiet boss fight, After few in game days have passed a rainbow will appear, which ends in a small pond in the battlefield, when the rainbow appears quiet will go to that rainbow's end quiet would be dancing with her eyes closed. You can get pretty close to her without her noticing but if you get too close she will shoot you. I don't know if it's well known if it is please ignore this, I just thought it was cool so I shared.

    MGS, pretty wowzas.

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 01:02 PM PDT

Started my MGS journey about 3 months ago. Got MGS LEGACY COLLECTION on my ps3. It broke when I basically completed MGS2. Bought MGS LEGACY COLLECTION on my Xbox 360 to finish MGS3. It was okay. Up until that point my favorite was MGS2. With MGS1 being right behind that, and MGS3, although not bad just not as great as the others. It may have been the combat (first MGS, I think, to use the 3D camera we're all so acquainted with now) or the lack of The Boss, but it didn't really leave an impression on me. But I didn't hate it either. Now after completing MGS4 I think I have a better grasp of what MGS is. Even my stealth game is getting better. I've really grown to appreciate MGS.

Anyways I'm almost finished with the franchise. Just got the majority of PEACEWALKER and V to complete and then I'll probably get a better picture of why people like MGS than what I already have. Although I guess I have a question. Has anyone felt it a little underwhelming. I've been thinking what if I had grown up with the franchise, would my perception of the series have changed? I mean it must've been real crazy playing MGS when it came out. It was a full blown movie with twists and turns. Awesome gameplay I'm sure for the time. And the codec calls, probably one of my favorite things in the series. Which is kinda sad looking back on it, even though I have only been with the franchise for like 3 months, they really reduced the codecs' importance in the later games. I mean theres barely any reason to call anyone in MGS4, and PEACE WALKER just completely gets rid of. Although I guess it makes up for it with the briefing files.

Back to the question or topic. Playing MGS2 and constantly questioning your self, like woah this reminds of MGS1. Oh hey, they have a ninja too. Wow this feels a lot like MGS1. And then BOOM. Woah it's like a simulation I think. Then you get to Arsenal gear, woah this is just a simulation isn't it? But boom, it's not! That must've been real cool. Hearing Campbell go crazy. All the nagging Rosemary does throughout the story eventually revealing you have social problems because you were a child soldier. Wow. This game was probably mind blowing when it came out. Not only being a commentary or look-back on MGS as a franchise but also examining the rise of the internet and how the powers that be would respond to it. Awesome stuff to experience today and I'm sure was even better when it came out; when it eventually becomes fact years later.

Going on to MGS3 must've been also very exciting, seeing the jump from Top-Down to a camera that you can control. When I first played MGS3 I was thinking of how useful it would be to gain information on the enemy. That must've been pretty exciting and also seeing the origins of Big Boss. Always talked about in the previous games, talked about like a true legend. And being able to play as him, that was cool. Even though it's not my favorite it's still pretty good.

MGS4 was probably the only reason I wanted to play the whole MGS franchise. I always heard it talked about, "best game", "worst game", "a mistake". Really good graphics, the best. "So hardware intensive that it couldn't be released on the Xbox 360." "The end of MGS." Finally finished it a couple days ago. Yeah it was pretty good. Probably hyped myself up a little too much. But it was really good. Seeing old snake and feeling pretty sad for him. Like this dudes old. I thought when I was watching the trailers that this was set 40 years later. Wow grizzled war veteran sees the rise of war constantly on a global scale. So deprived and evil. The word itself is reliant on it. The old man so weak. With no chance to stop it. That's what I thought was going on. It was a little different but I still liked it. Wished the game just stayed in the Middle East but as a retrospective or whatever on MGS. It was pretty good. And playing it made me realize that this was supposed to be the last entry in MGS. Or at least for snake. Just like how MGS2 was. Real good stuff. Came out and was I'm pretty sure very hyped. This was a game series that people loved that was released during the Console wars. Very unique in that I guess. A new look for MGS. Referencing bits and pieces from every MGS game. That was cool. Probably the saddest MGS game. And even now I still think. What is snake doing with the small amount of life he has left? I'm sure we'll never see anything with Solid Snake again. Or even Raiden. And that's cool.

Now. I'm playing PEACEWALKER and I really enjoy the bite sized nature of this game. Quick missions. Not entirely easy but still very fun. Stealth works and I honestly don't know if it's the way the game was designed or if I'm finally getting better at it. Couple of questions why does the lady revolutionary look fugly as hell. She looks like Chucky. OMEGALUL. Also Chico looks weird. And Paz straight up doesn't belong, she looks like a Barbie doll. Real weird. Everything else is fine. No spoilers please. I only just started chapter 2.

Got one question. Was MGSV made with the intention being that it would be the last one? Cause I know Kojima and Konami had a falling out. Does it fit as the ending of THE MGS FRANCHISE? I know we'll probably never get another MGS game or at least a MGS game that kojima is gonna make. Keep in mind I haven't played MGSV yet. So don't spoil it please.

    Character design in MGS4

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 10:44 AM PDT

I just replayed MGS1-3 and then played 4 and I couldn't understand why so many characters made reappearances only to have my connection to them ruined by them looking completely different. The character designer for MGS4 was oddly obsessed with giving nearly everyone (especially females) a square face. There were also some other design choices that I didn't like.

Snake - Why give him a moustache? You don't experience accelerated aging and then suddenly decide to grow a moustache. It's a generational thing. I understand that it made him look older, but Ocelot for example is actually old. It was from his generation. Snake never had one when he was younger. And he would have looked plenty old enough with a beard.

Meryl - Looks nothing like her previous model. They just randomly decided that she should have this overly square blockhead. There was nothing about Meryl's appearance or behavior in MGS4 that reminded me of her character in MGS1. Only her name. Johnny's appearance as a story character and his relationship with Meryl was also just random and pointless.

Naomi - Looks nothing like her previous model. One of her defining features in MGS1 was her high Helen Hunt-esque forehead and then in MGS4 they decide to give her a shorter than average forehead and a proportionately larger, more square face.

Eva - Had a long narrow face defining of her character and, like nearly everyone else, was given a different face shape. Also, like most other characters in MGS4, was given a much more obvious eyebrow arch and just looks like a different person.

Vamp - Looks like an entirely new character. Like some random demon. Doesn't even have the same eye color.

Raiden - I actually really liked his character in MGS2. But in MGS4 they turned him into an overly cliche trench coat wearing brooding anime type character who walks down hallways while killing everything. His character had a ton of potential, but they ruined him with cliches. They even gave him the anime hairdo.

Even Rose had a more square face than her MGS2 model. And don't say that it was necessary for realism because Raging Raven, a completely new character, did not have one.

I'm sure they didn't envision most people playing MGS4 with the previous 3 games so fresh in their minds, but it was really jarring going from MGS1-3 and then playing 4. All of these characters make reappearances (largely just for the sake of making them) and then they don't look (or act) anything like their previous selves and the entire time I was left thinking... what's the point? They made reappearances only to seem like entirely different people.

I think the game would have been better without so many past characters being so instrumental to its plot. Snake's CO from MGS3 randomly becoming the antagonist of the series, Eva becoming "Big Mama," Vamp being in the game for basically no reason, Meryl and so on just felt like fan service that fell flat on its face because I felt no connection to these new versions of them.

I did like some of the new character models. Big Boss for example looked like a higher quality version of Solidus (or even his old Metal Gear icon). Otacon also looked different and more realistic, but still felt like the same person. I'm glad I finally know how the series ends, but I can see why so many found it disappointing. The characters weren't the only thing I found underwhelming either. They were just the most jarring.

Is Venom inspired by Guts from Beserk?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 04:12 PM PDT

I'm a big fan of both Berserk and Metal Gear, and recently i've been thinking about that. They both have lost their comrades in a terrible disaster, both have lost their right arm and left eye in that same disaster, both are haunted by ghosts of the past, both seem to sometimes turn into a demon and both have somewhat frequent hallucinations. Any thoughts?
