In MGSV we all participated in one of the most important plot points in the series canon (SPOILERS) Posted: 20 Sep 2021 01:54 PM PDT MGSV spoilers below What I'm referring to is NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT. I know, it's been discussed to death -- but I don't really hear a lot of discussion about how it fits into the broader story. It is perhaps the most important development in the game because it sets up the context for MG2. That's right -- MGSV sets up both original games. Right in the intro, MG2 sets the stage by explaining that full nuclear disarmament has been achieved by all world powers, and that the world's fuel resources suddenly dried up much earlier than predicted leading to the development of OILIX -- a microbe that can synthesize oil. But some don't desire peace. Zanzibar Land, Big Boss's "Outer Heaven 2.0," then robs nuclear weapons disposal facilities and captures the scientist responsible for OILIX in order to position themselves as the world's dominant (only) nuclear power and give them monopoly control over the world's oil -- putting them on a similar level of global power as the U.S. once was (and still is in real life). Think about that setup for MG2 in relation to MGSV's FOB mode. Through FOBs, we create Big Boss's dream just by fighting each other. Each day we stand at the head of our respective PFs, we burn fuel and other natural resources to run our armies. Those among us who "don't desire peace" have created an age of extreme nuclear proliferation, leading to the problems that the world is facing at the start of MG2. Moreover, by the game's own logic we are all copies of Big Boss -- in other words, Big Boss is playing every side of this multi-multi-multi-front proxy war, where the entire motivation for fighting is to pillage the resources and capital required to fuel and fund the next war. Does that sound familiar? It should, because what I just described is functionally what Outer Heaven is. That's the thing that's so fucking cool about this game -- it basically simulates the economy of Outer Heaven. Did you think you were the only copy of Big Boss? Because he told you "it's the two of us together"? No, we're being played. You don't have the special friendship with Big Boss that you think you do -- he's cheating on you with thousands of other soldiers all brainwashed into thinking they're him too, all helping to build a legend that no one man could possibly achieve on his own, all while protecting the true bearer of the legendary title by taking the heat on the front lines. He socialized his identity among all of us, which gives us power but also puts us right in the crosshairs of every global power and every rival PF...meaning each other. Only by finally disarming (which still hasn't happened legitimately) can we actually move the timeline forward into MG1&2 -- but what's so tragic about this circumstance from a ludonarrative perspective is the fact that many players are likely motivated to disarm nukes because they're RP-ing a hero -- doing so literally nets you heroism points. But many of them likely don't even realize that Big Boss is just lying in wait for the world to disarm so that he can consolidate all of the nuclear power freshly up for grabs in poorly protected disposal sites and forge Zanzibar Land. It's his final manipulation -- and what's even worse is that he doesn't actually achieve that end until after "Venom Snake" (one of us, no way to tell who) is killed by Solid Snake while covering for Big Boss one last time. Sorry I just miss talking about MGS and still think about it a lot. I know all the details don't match up perfectly, but I'm 100% certain Kojima and co did not have MGSV in mind way back when they created MG1+2. This series has never cared much about internal consistency on every little detail -- the semantics and interpersonal drama between characters add an incredible and unique flavor, but the series' priority is to give the player a specific set of experiences that allows them to connect to its themes firsthand. In my opinion that's much more important than tying off every little detail perfectly; what we got instead with MGSV was an effective playable metaphor for the war economy that Big Boss would one day codify as "Outer Heaven." Which offscreen event in the series would you like to see as a cutscene? Posted: 20 Sep 2021 02:24 AM PDT Metal Gear Solid has some amazing cutscenes with memorable moments, however, there are events in the series that are only told in words and were never shown as a full cutscene in the games that I kind of wished existed. I have a few choices below, these do contain some spoilers for games that are over ten years old though. Feel free to mention your own events down below. Master Miller's Death: His death was offscreen and me and my friend imagined how he died, Did Liquid killed Miller at his home and if so, did Miller not go down without a fight or did Liquid play dirty and gave him a dishonorable death? Snake and Olga's Confrontation on Big Shell: As Raiden escorts Emma to the Strut L(?) to cross the Oil Fence, if you contact Snake, he will adamantly say that he has to go offline and is unresponsive until the sniping section. It is reveal by Olga that the two fought each other around the time Raiden and Emma were climbing down the 130 foot ladder. I would love to see what transpired during this fight and witness how Snake convinced Olga that he was not her father's killer? Raiden Rescuing Sunny: If you downloaded the MGS4 database on the PSN store, you can learn so many details from the series from Metal Gear to MGS4. One part of MGS4 that was explained was how Raiden found Sunny. Apparently Raiden discovered her after infiltrating Area 51, however he would be captured by the Patriots where he would be tortured and experimented on, hence why he is a cyborg. He and Sunny would be rescued by Big Mama and her resistance group as Sunny is returned to Snake and Otacon. I love to see this happen as this was going to be the premise for Metal Gear Rising. I'm happy with how the game ended up becoming but it would be amazing to see these events happen in action. [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Sep 2021 07:34 AM PDT I know that Solid Snake is not evil, he was uknowingly an agent of the patriots. But I feel like Big Boss is being vilified. He kind of pulled an Itachi the last minute but wasn't his intentions good. Didn't he challange the Patriots? Also depending o your gameplay he didn't kill most of the soldiers. So why is he seen as a villian throughout the game [link] [comments]

What was Ocelot's relationship with Sigint Posted: 20 Sep 2021 01:28 PM PDT I was wondering if anyone here knows what that relationship was like because Ocelot goes on to kill Sigint (Donald Anderson) in MGS1 without much of a thought. Which is weird since they were both in the la-li-lu-le-lo together after the events of MGS3. I need to know before it's too late [link] [comments]
Made a Spotify playlist with most of the MGSV music tapes. Posted: 20 Sep 2021 09:49 AM PDT It has pretty much every song that can be found on Spotify. SNAKE'S WALKMAN - Music From MGSV [GZ] Replaced the Peace Walker medleys with the only medley available. Missing music from the Déjà Vu and Jamais Vu missions. [TPP] Missing: Sands, Dreamt of an Eclipse, MGO Trailer Music, Koi No Yokushiryoku (Love Deterrence), Ride A White Horse, Take the D.W., Midnight Mirage, The Tangerine and MGS:PW Main Theme. Do you know anyone that played the series in release order without spoilers? Posted: 20 Sep 2021 10:16 AM PDT Like, started with Metal Gear (1987) on the MSX and played the entire series. I always wondered what it would be like to 3xpereince the series in this way. My first was MGS2 and I already knew basically everything that happened in MGS1. I dont think I ever avoided spoilers for any of the games tbh. I'm introducing my gf to the series, and we're starting with MG1. I'm so envious that she will experience all the insane twists and turns organically, and she seems to really be enjoying it! Shes not much of a gamer so she knows basically nothing about these games. I'm excited to experience it from beginning to end vicariously through her lol. I dont think I know anyone that played in order. It would be difficult in the west, because we didnt have the first two until MGS3. [link] [comments]
Can anyone identify the quote im looking for? Posted: 20 Sep 2021 11:49 AM PDT It goes something like this "The moment you picked up a gun there's always a chance you'll die for nothing" I'm not sure which game exactly i heard that from but it's quite possibly from MGSV [link] [comments]
