Plot hole in MGS1 regarding the PAL card?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 10:58 AM PDT

The strategy for activating Rex using the PAL card makes no sense for me. In the reveal that Miller is actually Liquid he clearly states that they were in trouble and had no way for activating rex without snake, planning it from the very start. Yet Foxhound and Liquid do everything to kill snake, yet need him for the activation. There are some threads on this sub suggesting that snake would have realized that he is being used if foxhound and liquid wouldn't have fought him.

But what doesn't make much sense is that every member of foxhound gets killed just to make the ploy convincing. Did Liquid just tell them one by one to fight snake and get themselves killed so snake doesn't realize his conspiracy? It is like the members of foxhound had no self preservation. Mantis was the only one to clearly state that he didn't really care about Liquid's plan and just wanted to kill people.

It is also pretty calculated guesswork for even Liquid to fight snake with the hind. He shoots missiles at snake and predicts that he will survive with a parachute jump and snake survives the attack. Disguised as Miller he helps Snake with the mission but tries his best to kill him at the same time.

Is there any clear explanation why foxhound and liquid did this? If they needed snake for the activation why did they try to make it so hard for him?

Do you guys think that the open world was a good idea in mgsv?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 09:40 AM PDT

I understand that a part of kojima's leaving of Konami was due to his use of funds and going over budget, so why did mgsv have to be open world? The game would've been better IMO as a linear game but maybe a bit more open then mgs3. Fans wouldn't mind at the time and it would've been a great game none the less. The story didn't have to be as bloated and he could've done with the budget he had. So in saying this, what is your opinion?

[MGS3] The canon outcome of Snake VS Ocelot on the WiG

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 03:31 AM PDT

As Snake and EVA make their escape on the WiG, Ocelot breaks into the WiG via flying platform, throws Snake's equipment out of the aircraft and Snake beats him with some CQC. EVA throws a Single Action Army to Snake but it's empty, just like Ocelot's. Ocelot uses the bullet on his necklace, places it on one of the chambers and challenges snake to one last showdown in a guessing game with the two revolvers.

There are four outcomes to this battle: Snake picks up the empty gun and loses but it's just a blank, Snakes wins by shooting Ocelot but it's a blank, Snake gets the loaded gun but misses his shoot and Snake gets the gun but doesn't fire his round before Ocelot does. I wonder if any of these outcomes are canonical to the story.

Personally, I find the Snake losing outcome to be canon, it evens the rivalry between the two and shows that Ocelot is catching up to him. It can foreshadow some events in the future (I have not played the Phantom Pain yet so if they confirmed it to be canon, my bad!).

    New fan

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 04:06 PM PDT

Hey everybody, late-comer to the MGS bandwagon. Always heard about it from other people and finally decided to dive in. The complicated back stories always intimidated me to get into it at such a late stage, but gotta start somewhere. I've started with MGSV. Loving it so far. I'm addicted to getting S ranks and completing all objectives. I really enjoy the open world structure they've applied to the game: that's my jam. I'm trying a non-lethal approach and trying to be consistent. Love the mother base building and admin part of the game too. I think about this game all the time. It's awesome. I'm only about 5 hours in but I'm already thinking about which games to try next. Any suggestions about which game to try next?

Why didn't they let us use the cassette player on fobs?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 04:04 PM PDT

This was done when the fobs were first introduced meaning it was a design choice by kojiprob, like why so I can't use African lullaby on one guard at a time. This is so stupid that the actual main attraction of the game doesn't allow you to listen to your own custom beats when you are either slaying or infiltrating a fob. Probably could have had so many funny moments with defenders and intruders too, really wish someone had made a mod to fix it.

This is a question against the final fight with Armstrong in Metal Gear Rising Revengeance

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 10:07 AM PDT

When he jumps up and throw the giant debris, how do you cut that?I tried multiple times and got hit all of those times.Do you wait for the lock on to fully target the weakpoints and just do it in one slice or do you do multiple fast cuts?

Was watching MGS V videos on youtube and this ad showed up

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 09:05 AM PDT

Do you think it was just a coincidence that this ad came up? I can't figure out if it's a coincidence, or Sutter Health targeted MGS video watchers.

Theory: Metal Gear Solid 3 is Kojima’s tribute to “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”

    Posted: 31 May 2021 07:08 PM PDT

I just watched the good the bad and the ugly and noticed a few similarities that I thought were interesting, but, of course, it could all be coincidence.

    • Both are the 3rd part in a trilogy

    • Both are prequels to the trilogies they are in

    • Both plots revolve around a great amount of money that all the main characters want for themselves and have different motives for obtaining (the $200,000 in TGBD and the philosophers legacy in MGS3)

    • Snake is the Good, Volgin is the Bad and Ocelot is the Ugly…

    • The good and the ugly team up at multiple times throughout the movie while still being enemies. Same can be said of Snake and Ocelot

    • Snake has always had a little Clint Eastwood in him to me

    What do y'all think?

    Peace Walker

    Posted: 31 May 2021 07:10 PM PDT

So how essential to the story is Peace Walker, I've been playing the MGS series straight through for the first time in release order. I wrapped up Guns of The Patriots last night and started Peace Walker today but am really, really not a fan of this one so far. Plus I know that there's a "True Ending" type thing you have to deal with in order to see how it really ends and I personally can't stand that type of shit.
