Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - My personal favourite of the lot (a quick review) Posted: 05 Mar 2021 09:30 AM PST Sons of Liberty might be my favourite stealth game. Why? Because its gameplay is some of the most refined in the genre. Unlike its predecessor, where your best bet was to shoot people with the silenced SOCOM and get the hell out of dodge, In Sons of Liberty there are plenty of tactics you can use to avoid and dispatch your enemies, like hiding in a cupboard, hanging off of a rail, shooting out cameras, and the nifty addition of an M9 tranquilizer gun, which might just be one of the finest non-lethal weapons in Stealth game history along with the Blackjack from Thief. All of these and more are complimented by some of the best AI in videogame history: They'll call in backup if they spot you, they'll try to run for cover to do the previously mentioned task, and before that, as they get suspicious, they'll try and check to see if you're present, and if they're knocked out as they radio in, a squad will be sent in to track you down. These are some of the best enemies I've ever fought in a video game, and combined with the base set by Solid and the aforementioned additions to the gameplay, result in one of the most satisfying games I've ever played. Also, the Story. The story for Sons of Liberty might be one of the best I've ever seen in a videogame. No wait, scratch that, it IS the best story I've seen in a game. I really want newcomers to play this game for themselves, so without spoiling much: The storyline naturally continues the deconstructive political cyberpunk of its predecessor, but with a more post-modern edge. As in, genuinely post-modern. It starts out as what you expect, but then, things in the plot begin to peel back (right around the 2 hour mark) and progressively get worse, with things slowly and subtly becoming more and more reminiscent of Solid, making you think that this is a shameless rehash. And then, by the end, the game reveals everything and changes your opinions on Videogames, Games as wish-fulfilment, genetic memory, and LIFE ITSELF. Again, no spoilers, because I really want new players to enjoy this. Basically, it all boils down to this: If you're new to the stealth genre, YOU NEED TO PLAY METAL GEAR SOLID 2. It's relatively easy to get hold of too, as through all of its ports, it has become the most widely available of the first four Metal Gear games, and you can get the PC version on GOG.com or, if you have a PS3/Xbox, you can go for the MGS HD Collection which includes MGS2 as part of the package. Just be warned: Things aren't as they seem... [link] [comments]

It is worth to buy a PS3 just for Metal Gear Legacy Collection? Posted: 05 Mar 2021 02:00 PM PST I dunno what to think. I could buy a PS2 and play MGS 1, 2 and 3 on it and considering that i already have a PSP i could play Peace Walker on it and play the MSX ones on my phone. In the end, it will just last MGS 4 that i could play on my future PC gamer in a very distant future but i heard that MGS4 on the ps3 emulator for PC doens't work quite well. Sorry if is a stupid question but i am in fact a stupid person. Should i just do the PS2 strategy whereas maybe i will never play MGS4 ( it's a possibility ) or it is better if i just buy a PS3 and Legacy Collection? [link] [comments]

Theory/Continuity fix: That guy with the Ray/Rex models in his room was just an anime fan. Posted: 05 Mar 2021 11:40 AM PST You know how there's the russian guy in MGS3 who has the models of Rex and Ray? What if that wasn't a model of a future metal gear, and it was just a model of whatever anime Otacon based the Rex on? Just thought that was interesting. [link] [comments] |
