    Metal Gear Frozen

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 01:08 PM PDT

I know I am late but I just can't get myself to start a game series midway, I started gaming quite after MGS 5 was out so I am so happy to get my hands on this copy!! Already past MG1 and MG2, Starting MGS right now

    Revisiting MGS4, 12 years later.

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 10:21 AM PDT

    • A bit of setup. I've played every MGS game since middle school, when I got my first Playstation I fell in love with MGS. I bought every other MGS release after that on day one. I was pretty well obsessed with the games, and would watch e3 trailers on repeat, and I was constantly on discussion boards online.

    • But when MGS4 came out, I bought it day one, and played it and beat it twice. But it didn't hold my attention. I kept playing other Metal Gear games, but not MGS4.

    • So it's 12 years later now. I'm no longer in college, and I've got the Metal Gear itch, and I decided to give MGS4 another go to see if I felt differently about it. So this is my sort of retrospective. Revisiting an old game with different eyes and seeing how I feel about it now.

    THINGS I LOVE

    • It's still a fantastic work of science fiction. Kojima and company have always been fantastic sci-fi storytellers. MGS4 is no different, the dive into AI control and the self perpetuating war-economy loop is fascinating. And though it's obviously very sci-fi, it's still grounded well enough that it's a believable future.

    • Acts I and II, with battlefield sneaking, are still a ton of fun to play and I think are the best aspects of the game.

    • The story, overall, is great. I don't mind the over-reliance on nanomachines as a plot device, it's fine. I did and still enjoy the story of the game. It adequately summarizes and ends the series in a satisfying way.

    THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE

    • The filters. The majority of the in game and cutscene sequences are under that green, or tan, filter. This didn't bother me much back then, but it does now. It really ruins the look of an otherwise good looking game. It's just ugly, and holds up worse than games on inferior hardware.

    • Overt sexualizaiton. Sexuality has been pretty constant throughout the franchise, but I feel like they took it to another level with the B&B corps. Every single time you defeat one of them you're hit with ass and camel toe from a litany of camera angles specifically meant to highlight those features. It's just pretty cringe. It didn't bother me years ago, but I just sort of roll my eyes at it now.

    • I don't think it's an uncommon criticism, even twelve years ago, but yeah, this is the worst offender of the old stereotype of watching and not playing the game. The actual time I got to use the controller to do something steadily decreased as the game went on, and because I knew the story already, I just found myself bored. But since I hadn't played the game in so many years, I did watch everything again. All I can say is that I'm thankful you can pause cutscenes.

    • Acts III, IV and V pale in comparison to Acts I and II. I mentioned I loved the battlefield sneaking, and just like I remember back then, I was just straight up bored by the game play sequences of III-V. Most of the tension is gone, and yeah, it's boring.

    • The trailing of the Resistance member in Act III could have been great, but it's basically just a slow walk to your destination. Filling up those streets with civilians could have really elevated that level. Hitman Blood Money came out two years before MGS4 and showed that stealth in large crowds could be achieved.

So yeah, unfortunately my feeling toward the game has only become worse after replaying it for the first time in more than ten years. It's not a bad game, and I don't actively dislike it. But yeah, it unfortunately remains my least favorite of the series. And after spending so much time again to complete it, I don't see myself ever really picking it back up again.

I'd certainly like to hear any arguments for the game. Hearing other perspectives could definitely soften my view toward it.

Random Question: Could Quiet drink her own sweat??

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 09:20 AM PDT

If Quiet takes in/drinks water through her skin, but sweat is also secreted through the skin, does this mean that she could effectively (or actually) drink the sweat she's just produced, back through the skin it's just been secreted from???

EDIT: Is it also just water she can drink through her skin, or any liquid? If she could drink her own sweat, would she also reabsorb the salts, etc?

Was raiden made believe he was an unexperienced rookie?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 09:57 AM PDT

Something never added up to me. Raiden is said to be a rookie, with no real field experience in mgs2, and you see him acting like that in the game. but later in the game we discover that he was jack the ripper a child soldier and stuff. so... being a child soldier doesnt count as stealth agent experience? or the patriots brainwashed raiden to think he was a rookie? or it was too long ago and raiden lost his skill?

How I imagined a boss fight againts Skull Face

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 08:17 AM PDT

Skull Face lures Venom Snake into an enclosed building and disarms Snake of his primary weapon, items, and support weapons leaving the player to deal with him using only secondary weapon and CQC. Skull Face will use hit and run tactics on Snake and using his Mare's Leg against you. Also, Skull Face is able to CQC Snake and use the surroundings to his environment. But nah, they just dropped a tower on him. Guess that works.

Which of his personality did you like better? His innocent one in MGS3 or what he became in PW?

Did you play Peace Walker, got both endings before MGSV?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 07:17 AM PDT

This came to mind recently and I would like to know the general consensus of this subreddit. How of many of you actually played and beaten Peace Walker, got both endings, before playing MGSV?

I feel like in order to understand the context of MGSV, you have to play Peace Walker (Others too) first in order to do so.

Admittedly, I was one of those who didn't play PW before V, but after I completed V, I immediately started playing PW and took me a month to finally get both endings and V's plot finally clicked with me.

Hot take, but I’d love to see a portable ops remake or at least a port to modern consoles since I never got the chance to play it. And maybe have ac!d1&2 as a bundle because those seem kind of cool as a side game.

anyone having input issues with certain inputs in MGS2 with V's fix? (L1 and L3)

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 01:36 PM PDT

I'm playing with the ps4 controller, original layout, without ds4windows because in my experience that software causes strange things to happen. most of the game works perfectly, but for some reason i'm not able to input L3 or L1. i can't zoom into the colonel's face during calls, or do the main menu code because these buttons just act like i'm not pressing them. it's not a controller issue because they work fine in other games.

I'm sure I'm missing something incredibly obvious here but I just can't get any to work. Its always straight to the hospital beginning. I've tried replacing files in all the relevant user data folder but still nothing...

    Any help would be appreciated
