Your unpopular Metal Gear Solid opinions[Spoilers] Posted: 07 Apr 2020 02:08 PM PDT Title speak for itself. Give your unpopular opinion. My unpopular opinion: I'm bitter that the last Kojima Metal Gear Solid game was not about Solid Snake. I know originally he had planned to kill Solid Snake in Guns of the Patriots. And I wish he did. Especially now that it's likely he will never work on a metal gear game for the foreseeable future. [link] [comments]

Just finished MGS 1 to 5 – Some thoughts Posted: 07 Apr 2020 01:57 PM PDT Started MGS1 in December and just finished MGSV. Below is how I rate the games from best to worst. MGS2 > MGS1 > MGS3 >>MGSV >>>>>>>>>MGS4 My advice to newcomers for the series: Stick to MGS1-3. Each of those games are the peak of the series and are generally fantastic. The gameplay for MGSV is great but it's heavily padded and comes with little story. It's a good game but nowhere near MGS standards. MGS4 was basically a movie that had few gameplay segments outside of the first two episodes. I felt MGS4 was a waste of my time. It feels like a disappointing end to a great series. So now my grandma thinks Ground Zeroes was a true story....[spoiler] Posted: 07 Apr 2020 03:56 PM PDT I got my playstation at her house while I'm helping take care of her during the lockdown. She happened to catch the end of Ground Zeroes, and asked me "what is this some movie or game?" I have no idea why, but for some reason I told her "it's just a game BUT it's actually based on real events". She caught everything from the instant Paz has her bomb removed,(she walked in literally at the last part of that moment, so she didn't get traumatized from the actual surgical procedure) to the ending credits where it shows the timeline of future events to happen in Big Boss' Storyline. I kinda feel like an asshole for saying it, but at the same time, I would love so much to be convinced anything from Metal Gear is a reality. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Apr 2020 09:20 AM PDT Hello there! So, I'm new at this MG World. Tried to play MGS3 on my PS2, but I was too young to like the game. I've started to play MGSV and I'm close to the end, then I've decided to watch some gameplays about MGS3, MGPO and MGPW to understand the story. I know that Big Boss became the major villain of the older Metal Gear games and Ocelot is one of the Solid Snake villains, so my doubt is: When MGS3 was release, to the people who played the older games first, was the new title of Naked Snake a plot twist? Like "Holy freak, is he the Big Boss???" or the previous games explained it already? [link] [comments]

Continuity discussion in MGS Games Posted: 07 Apr 2020 01:23 PM PDT I know this page is mostly for memes but I wanted to have a discussion on something. I'm replaying MGS1 at the moment and noticed a few things that are continuous and ideas that get repeated throughout the story. The first thing I noticed was when you first fight Gray Fox, the corridor is full of blooded soldiers. This gets repeated with vamp in MGS2 and is one of the many ideas/themes that Kojima repeated throughout the series. I thought nothing of it the first time I played through the series. Perhaps just a nice recurring theme with nothing else to it? It might just be quarantine brain, but I can't help thinking is there a deeper meaning behind the repetition like this. There are many other moments that happen in the series (the recurring ninjas, with the same codename etc.) You might remember some I haven't listed. Ever think there was more to it? The series is probably complex enough without even thinking about this but happy to hear people's thoughs either way 🤓 [link] [comments]

Why is Peace Walker so beloved? Posted: 07 Apr 2020 07:46 AM PDT So I really don't mean to insult anyone who loves this game, but why does everyone seem to place it as one of the best games in the series? I'm not saying Peace Walker is a bad game, I just want to see the counterpoints to what I'm about to say. Firstly, the gameplay is massively limited compared to the rest of the series. I am fully aware that the game was limited by the PSP, but even Portable Ops felt like it had more enjoyable gameplay and mechanical depth. The loss of crawling is a travesty, and CQC has been simplified to the point where it essentially acts as a get out of jail free card should you be surrounded by enemies. The level design is cripplingly uninteresting, being a fairly obvious "point A to point B" system. The other games were linear in structure, but it felt as though you were able to explore the environments and find new ways to go about things. Peace Walker feels more like, "forward, tranq, tranq, tranq, forward, tranq". The boss fights are infamously bad. The focus on Co-Op completely destroys any sense of fun these fights may have had. Of course, the game also lacks any human bosses. This is a shame, as the series best bosses (Vulcan Raven, The Boss, etc) were tense encounters between you and a single, human opponent, in which you would use the environment to your advantage. The A.I may have been exploitable as all hell, but at least PO had human bosses. The side missions, are pretty boring. There are a few interesting ones, but even though TPP has less interesting design it's still able to win here on the strength of its core gameplay. Don't get me started on the Zadornov missions. The plot isn't the best. It actually begins and ends, which I have to give it credit for, but none of it is all that interesting. "Oh ho nukes" "Oh ho The Boss is a computer now" "Oh ho Big Boss is keeping a nuke for himself". This brings me to another point, the inconsistent tone. Big Boss is very much a villain by the end of Peace Walker. He's keeping a nuke on hand, he's forming Outer Heaven, he's pretty much used child soldiers. Some pretty evil stuff. And yet the tone is arguably the lightest of any MGS game. There's nothing wrong with this, MGS was never the most serious series anyway (Contrary to what Kojima thinks). The plot treats Big B as this big hero, whoopie everyone! Meanwhile the shady stuff he does is just read off by Kaz in-between missions. "Yo Boss, we got a new job." "Yo Boss, what do you think about going to war with everyone?" "Yo Boss. I found a nuke, wanna keep it?". The excuse I hear is that we're seeing it from his point of view, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the game never even touches on his moral ambiguity. You don't have to make it obvious, but at least bring it up. The new characters, aren't great. Strangelove is decent, definitely the best of the bunch. Huey is a poor man's Hal here. Say what you want about TPP, but at least he became a separate character there. Hot Coldman is a famously awful villain. I actually like Zadornov, but that's because of Steve Blum not because of the character. Paz and Chico are... eh. No, I don't think the Pacifica Ocean twist makes her any better. Kaz is a weird one. He's not really a "new" character, but he's a very different interpretation of a fairly minor character who was only relevant in two prior games, and technically only "in" one of them. He's alright. He's a decent little secretary, popping up between missions telling me what I need to grind now. He was fun in the cassette tapes. Honestly, I just find PW Kaz kind of bland. Backstory alone does not a character make. TPP was what it was, but I don't mind what they did with Kaz. He just felt like more of a human in that game. Voice acting. Well, it's there. In all seriousness, most of it is... alright. The script doesn't really give many of the actors a chance to do much of interest. Tara Strong, is alright. Robin Atkin Downes, is alright. Christopher Randolph is reliably decent, but doesn't get much interesting work here. Vanessa Marshall is good as Strangelove, even when some of the dialogue is ehhh (If the game didn't make it clear to you, Strangelove is a scientist.) Of course, we must now address the elephant in the room. Mr David Hayter. I'll defend his performances in the other games (Although Snake Eater wasn't exactly his best work...), but he's really not great here. I like how he did the Outer Heaven speech, I'll give credit for that. The rest of the time, Snake just had this weird gravelly sound that Hayter didn't do before (barring Old Snake, where it made sense), and hasn't done since (in cameos and the like. Obviously we all know about the V scandal). Not to mention, his tone is all over the place. When he's telling Cecile about Outer Heaven, he sounds like an excited, chain smoking double-glazing salesman. Not his best work at all. The cutscenes are beautiful, I have to admit. A big step up from PO, and a good way to get around the limitations of the PSP. Props to the art team for that. The soundtrack, is alright. I like Heavens Divide a lot. Not a fan of the Peace Walker theme though. It suits MSF, and it's a good track. Just personal taste. Apart from that, I'm afraid I don't remember much of it. So, that's my hatchet job written. Again, if you love PW, that's great. I just want to understand why the game is so beloved. Please, I beg of you, write a long-ass comment rebuking my points. [link] [comments] |
