Was MGSV always intended to be split between 2 seperate games?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 04:13 PM PDT

Forgive me for being a few years late for this question, I've just been thinking recently.

I've heard conflicting stories that either Ground Zeroes was always going to be released before The Phantom Pain, GZ was released to be a tech demo for TPP, or that during production MGSV was split to recoup some of the costs of production. I was just wondering if I've missed anything that anyone can point me towards to elaborate on this?

Personally I think the game would be received a lot better if the initial split had never happened and the game was released as a whole. I say this as a massive fan of both games.

    Throws in MGS2?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 03:39 PM PDT

Can anyone tell me or show me what kind of throw (square button + motion if im not mistaken) both Snake and Raiden preform in MGS2? I ask because I can't find any information anywhere online or any videos that show Snake or Raiden preforming a throw on a guard. I don't have access to any consoles or gaming computers so I can't really see for myself. In MGS1 Snake preforms a lifting-pulling foot sweep (In judo it's called Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi) and I'm curious if in MGS2 it's different.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    Help with Dog Tags?! MGS2HD

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 03:03 PM PDT

I want to get all the items from the Plant chapter to get my platinum trophy, but I also don't want to play the game on Extreme Mode because I find this game's bosses and gameplay incredibly frustrating and rage inducing, so Extreme Mode is out of the question for me. Is there a way I can get all Dog Tags without even so much as touching that mode? Otherwise I guess I'll quit entirely.

[THEORY] The Twin Snakes was actually Raiden's VR Training

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 05:06 PM PDT

[DISCLAIMER] I haven't played the Metal Gear games for a while and I'm writing this late at night so my evidence may be inaccurate. Also I'm not sure if a similar theory has been posted here before but I'll cross my fingers that it hasn't.

I was playing Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on my Gamecube recently, and I found myself, like most people, laughing at the overly dramatic way in which the cutscenes are presented, such as when Snake jumps off of a moving missile to get a clear shot. I compared it to the original PSX version, which was relatively grounded in reality. However, while playing I found myself also comparing it to MGS2, mostly for the similar gameplay, and I was considering that game's story when I remembered something that the game's protagonist Raiden said. He mentioned to Pliskin that he had undergone extensive VR training in preparation for that game's mission, but had never actually been on the battlefield before. I may be remembering wrong, but I seem to recall him talking about a VR simulation of the Shadow Moses incident from MGS1 playing a role in his training, as his higher ups wanted him to replace Solid Snake. This led me to wonder: what if the events of the Twin Snakes were simply Raiden's experience of the story through his simulated training, hence the gameplay being similar to that seen in MGS2? This may seem far-fetched, but consider this: Raiden had probably been raised hearing stories about the legendary Solid Snake and his daring missions, and thus he surely would have wound up having a somewhat exaggerated view of Snake as some incredible action hero. Perhaps the ridiculous feats that Snake pulls off in TS is simply due to Raiden's perception of how the Shadow Moses incident probably went down. This is just my thoughts though, so please feel free to tell me I'm wrong in the comments.

Favorite Moment in Metal Gear Solid (PS1)?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 05:14 AM PDT

Recently I beat MGS for the PS1. For the first time ever.

It was an experience I'm not gonna forget anytime soon. I haven't played the others yet, but when I save up enough money I'll be getting a PS2 to play the next.

There were so many unique and crazy moments in the game.

So which was your favorite? It's hard for me to pick one but it's gotta be the psycho mantis fight.

    Spoilers? below

Uncovering that you physically need to change the control port was just totally crazy to me. I don't know why but this is my first "older" game I've played in a decade. But playing this game made me feel like lots of modern games are sticking too close to the formula. MSG was totally refreshing!

I can't wait the beat the rest.

Can You Help Me Make a Trivia Question?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 10:10 AM PDT

Fans of the greatest games ever,

Please help me crowdsource. I host bar trivia once a month, and get to make questions on my own as long as they fit into certain categories. Typically, I can work a video game question into either the Culture, TV/Movies/Entertainment, or Host's Choice rounds, depending on the nature of the question. I've been trying to incorporate a question or two about the Metal Gear franchise or a game in the franchise, but I'm struggling to come up with questions I really like.

I don't like to ask about specifics of the plot of games (or the plot of anything, for that matter) but rather the importance or impact.

    Any ideas?
