Should I get phantom pain if Im not good at stealth ? Posted: 15 Nov 2021 06:04 AM PST Hey, I tried ground zeros on my friends pc and my godi loved it. It felt like a movie, especially the cutscenes . Now I really want to phantom pain but I'm kinda scared since I suck at stealth and mgs is meant to be played like that. I tried to do the save paz and Chico mission in full stealth, but was caught frequently even if I marked enemies and waited patiently and had to revert to check points like 10 times. No matter how hard I try to stay low, Some pesky son of a bitch ends up getting suspicious. And it took me about 2 hrs to complete the mission. Do y'all think I should get it or forget about it ? Also I don't know shit about the characters, so can I still understand the story ? Thanks Edit: holy shit this kinda blew up, thanks everyone who took time and replied. I may not be able to reply to everyone but I'll try my best to read your comments [link] [comments]

Ranking all of the MGS3 boss fights, because why not? Posted: 15 Nov 2021 12:10 PM PST Dunno what to say here, I can confirm the title is accurate. I recently played through a Non-Lethal run of MGS3 to get the Peace Walker achievement. And wow, MGS3 has some great boss fights. At worst, they're just okay, at best there's a debate to be had that they're some of the best boss fights in gaming history. So, let's rank em, provide reasons why they're where they are, and have a good time all around. First, some clarification: The fights I'll be talking about are Ocelot, The Pain, The Fear, The End, The Fury, The Sorrow, Volgin, Shagohod/Volgin, and The Boss. I don't consider the Ocelot Unit a boss fight, though that's a fun encounter in of itself. And I don't count the Shagohod chase as a boss fight, as that's more a set-piece then an actual fight. The criteria for where I put the fights are rather simple. The story significance of it, how fun the fight is itself (in both a lethal and non-lethal run), the variety of options you have in it, and the music, of course. Lastly, of course, this is all my opinion. If you disagree, great! We'd be boring if we just collectively agreed on everything. With all that out of the way, let's begin. Number 9: The Sorrow. Tough to rank The Sorrow overall. He's not really a proper fight, so he kinda has to be at the bottom. But at the same time, the fight works really well, with the interesting concept of the fight being both longer and more difficult the more enemies you took out at that point of the run. Story wise, it's really interesting as well. Snake just fucking died, to put it simply, and now he's in The Sorrow's domain, looking for a way out. Gameplay wise, it's more of a puzzle then an actual fight. The game never outright tells you, but you gotta die and then proceed to use the revival pill to really end the fight. This is where one of the only points of gameplay variety comes in the fight, using the fake death pill to essentially skip all of the encounter if you still have it at this point. Though making it to the end gives you his camo, which is really good, so it's up to the player with what's best. Overall, The Sorrow is an amazing experience, though he must get the bottom spot due to him being a boss fight by technicality only. Number 8: The Pain. Now we come to the worst boss fight that's actually a boss fight, The Pain! Not to say he's bad in the slightest. Just has some issues. Story wise, he just kinda pops up, an issue with all of the Cobra Unit to be completely honest. And it's (at least in my opinion) the easiest fight in the game by far. Pop up. Shoot him a bit, preferably in the head. Go underwater to avoid the bees. Go back up. Repeat. It's very repetitive, especially on a non-lethal run. He also doesn't have much variety in the fight. You can wear white camo to reduce hornet damage. You can also throw a hornets nest on the ground to give it an upgrade. That's about it. Not to say the fight is bad though, it has it's charm. While the fight itself is rather easy, the spectacle of it can't be understated. The man makes guns and grenades from thin air, that's gotta win some points. The music is probably the weakest of the Cobra Unit boss music, but that's not to say it's bad in the slightest, shit slaps. Plus, guys memeable, as are all of the Cobra Unit, really. Number 7: Volgin/The Shagohod. The whole Shagohod chase was great, and now that it's grown weaker, it's the perfect chance to properly take it out! Story wise, you've been taking on Volgin for what seems like all eternity, with Volgin himself probably being the most entertaining antagonist in MGS3, at least for me. Plus, the chase established the Shagohod as a force to be reckon with, so that helps. Phase one of the fight is easy, but I like it because of the charm. Gotta blow up the backside of the Shagohod while you're on Eva's bike. It's rather easy, just shoot the "legs" of it, then while it's stunned shoot it's back. But it's still fun, and it's the only time in the non-lethal run you really get to let loose. Phase two is a bit worse. Not concept wise, Volgins powering up the Shagohod by himself, and he's determined to take down Snake and Eva. But it's an incredibly easy encounter, and not in the fun way like phase one. Dodge the Shagohod, shoot Volgin, maybe pick up ammo from Eva. Rinse, repeat. Also practically no room for creativity in the fight. You can use the anti air emplacement for a bit, and that's where it really ends. Takin' On the Shagohod absolutely slaps though, so that gives some bonus points. All in all, a great fight, lowered down by the simplicity of it. Number 6: The Fear. Now we're just getting into the boss fights that have practically no downsides, just some great encounters all around. First off, story wise. Again, like all of the Cobra's, he just appears. So lowered points for that, but that's the only downside I can even list. The Fear mainly attacks you using poisonous darts. Let them in your system too long, and they'll drain your health, and they stack up real fast. He also has a sorta stealth camo, so it might be hard to catch him without a keen eye, or proper use of stuff like the directional mic. It's a great mechanic. There's also a extra feature for non lethal runs, with The Fear going down the trees to eat some food if he's running low on stamina, which can be used to your advantage if you have a poisonous animal on hand. It's a short and largely unimportant encounter, but a memorable one, if only because of how much there is to it. If you didn't trigger any traps during your first time in this area, they'll all still be here, with both you and The Fear being susceptible to them. If you use the fake death pill to get The Fear within stun grenade range, you can effectively skip the entire fight with the AK-47. As I've mentioned, him eating rotten/poison food on accident. It's a awesome fight which makes great use of almost every mechanic in the game, only marred by the fact that it gives the player possibly too much options, as he's really easy to take down. Number 5: Volgin. The first encounter with this lad, and oddly enough it stuck with me more then his last one. Volgin was a really great villain, even if he wound up getting played by everyone. Anyway, I'm getting off topic. Lots of stuff going on in this fight. For the first half, Ocelot is with you, cheering you on. You can even feed him and he'll give you stuff. A timer is initiated, with an instant game over for the player should it count down to zero. And Volgin himself is an actual threat, with his lightning attacks dealing quite a bit, and him being immune to bullets from the front. Lots of ways to tackle the fight. Volgin himself wants a CQC duel, and y'know what? In both of my playthrough's I honoured that wish, it was really fun both times. You can of course also use guns so long as you hit his back or side, quite easy considering he often goes to charge up is electricity. Not a whole lot of room for fun details and experimentation, but there is of course the Raid- sorry, Raikov mask that can be used to get a free hit in, plus some funny dialogue. Plus, Clash With Evil Personified? Man, what a badass song. All in all, a fantastic fight, which in all honesty probably should've been his last one. Number 4: The Boss. Possible hot take, never really found The Boss that compelling as a character. I like her, and I get how she's the motivation for Big Boss in future instalments, but story wise? Just never hooked me, I guess. Felt more because Big Boss was sad then because I was actually sad. So story wise the final boss was a bit weaker for me then it was for most people, I'd imagine. Fight itself more then makes up for it, though. Like Volgin, it'll mostly come down to a CQC duel, but it's much more elaborate. Snake and The Boss are sneaking up on one another, and the environment is perfect for not being able to tell where The Boss is. When it comes to a sheer test about everything you've learned so far, there's no boss fight that comes closer then The Boss. Not much for me to say, in all honesty. It's hard to describe this fight, it's one of those moments where you gotta experience it yourself. No gimmicks, no ways to really make the fight easier, if you held on to the fake death pill for this long it won't do a thing, it's just a pure stealth/CQC fight with your old mentor. And it's great. Number 3: Ocelot. The first boss of the game, and trust me, it holds up. Story wise, Ocelot has been a riot in every encounter. Just getting utterly embarrassed every step of the way. And now you finally encounter the man, watch him twirl revolvers for what feels like minutes in the moment, and finally do battle with him. You'd expect him to be a joke, and you'd be half right, But the boss still kicks ass. Main battle is Ocelot testing his revolvers in combat, and he'll use them to their fullest potential. You can barely stand still in this encounter. Even going behind cover, Ocelot will just attempt (and mostly succeed) to ricochet the bullets at you. Ocelot isn't hard to take down, at it's simplest you just headshot him and you're good, but it's so great because how much there is to it. The longer the fight lasts, the faster Ocelot will reload. You can shoot off his hat to distract and aggravate him. Shoot the hornets nest above him to once again distract him. Go up a tree for higher ground, there's so much creativity on display. You can even just ignore the pistol duel and chuck a grenade at him. The concept of a perfect boss is mainly just that: A concept. But a perfect first boss is more then achievable, and Ocelot let me knew that the bosses in this game were gonna be something special. Number 2: The Fury. God, I love this fight. Mostly because of my second run, but even without it it's fantastic. Story wise? Again, just a Cobra. But that's the only complaint to be found. Concept of the fight is incredibly captivating. A dark room with lots of different turns and paths. A man with a flamethrower hunting you down, with this being one of only two bosses where stealth is almost mandatory to a certain degree to take him out. It's a game of cat and mouse, with the roles constantly being switched. His flamethrower is deadly, the flames stay for a really long time, and for my money he's the hardest boss in the game, certainly the one I died the most to. What I love about MGS3 is the different ways you can go about fights, with one way not outright being better then the others. Take sight for example. You can use the torch, thermal goggles, navigator, or just go at it without any of them. Each has their uses and drawbacks. Torch reveals your position, goggles get screwed over by the fire, having nothing obviously results in less visibility, etc. Attacking him has a lot too. Snipe him from a distance, CQC him, just go full Rambo and fire everything into him, there's no way better then the other. He has a counter to almost everything, the music is fucking awesome, and utilising stealth and pure combat in a fight this seamlessly has to be commended. And it would be number 1, if not for... Number 1: The End. MGS3 players likely saw this one coming, but that's a testament to how good the boss is. Story wise, it's a Cobra, but there's a lot more to this one. The End is growing old, soon dying. Regardless of the victor of this duel, he dies one way or the other, so there's this weird respect you gotta have for him. Giving this man one last hurrah before his sendoff, something even Snake comments on should you skip his fight. Oh yeah, there are two ways to skip the battle. One's by sniping him earlier on, the other's waiting for him to die of old age by not playing the game for at least over a week. Already this fight has so much to it, and we haven't even discussed the fight itself. And what a battle it is. Remember what I said last boss, about the diversity fights provide being one of the reasons why I love it? Yeah, that's in The End fight tenfold. It's a wonderful encounter. You can play it straight and initiate a sniper duel with him. But first you gotta find him, mark his sniping positions and see which one he's likely to use. You can do this using various sensors you have on you, for me that was the directional mic, but it all depends on the player. Aside from the sniper duel, you can sneak up on him and attack him that way. Even get his camo for doing so. From there you can follow footprints to see where he goes off to, capture his parrot and use it to pinpoint his position, the game accounts for practically everything. An amazing test of endurance, stealth, and being able to accurately find your target. For my money, one of the best boss fights in Metal Gear, period. Anyway, that's it. I'm bad at ending these type of things, so I guess I'll just say thanks for reading. It's a lot but I had a lot of things to talk about. It was a lot of fun typing it out and I hope it was fun in places for you as well. Have a great day, and thanks for reading some guy talking about bosses for a long time. [link] [comments]

MGS1 Things that trigger alert Posted: 15 Nov 2021 08:48 AM PST Is there any use to stuff like grenades and stun grenades? Using C4 and claymores? Nikita? Any unsuppressed weapon. This isn't in regards to boss fights, but in any other situation. All these things are useless as everything triggers an alert, unless I'm missing something. Especially stun grenades as you need, I'm pretty sure, lethal nades to kill the tank, but with stun it's just pointless as I'm pretty sure they all just trigger alert mode. [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Nov 2021 07:40 AM PST So i had a fob invader take out 40 lethal sniper s tier guards in 6 minutes. This invader also set off multiple mines and didn't trigger a guard fob alert. I also defended but the invader always knew where i was and just instast stunned me with stun grenades. I'm not sure if they were cheating. [link] [comments]
