    Addressing a perceived contradiction between Psycho Mantis in MGS1 and 4

    One complaint about MGS4 I've heard is that Screaming Mantis being controlled by Psycho Mantis' will, contradicts Psycho Mantis' dying realization that he could've used his powers to help people in MGS1.

    "It's strange. I've never used my powers to help someone. It feels... kind of... nice..."

    But I don't think Psycho Mantis' ghost was actually controlling Screaming Mantis; She was brainwashed (via drugs and hypnosis) into having Mantis' personality, like Liquid Ocelot and Venom Snake were (brainwashed via hypnotic suggestion). There'd be no point in the Liquid Ocelot twist if the game still had spirits possessing people.

    Sure, Psycho's ghost tagged along behind Screaming, but I think he was just observing her and Snake. When Screaming was defeated, Psycho wasn't like "curse you, Snake!" He said "excellent, Snake!" He wanted to see how Snake would perform against his next-gen doppelgänger.
