Sons of Liberty was such a step up in gameplay

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 09:20 AM PDT

This aspect of the game doesn't get brought up enough but the improvements between this game and the first in gameplay was astounding and blew my mind having played both around their original launch dates. Sons of Liberty felt so ahead of its time things like being able to break fire extinguishers and pipes were next level innovations. Shooting out enemy radio and other things in the environment. Finally being able to use every weapon in first person view and corner shots were brilliant additions. The realism in enemies needing to radio for back up for the alert to go off.Enemy A.I. becoming more coordinated with the introduction of caution mode and enemies wearing riot gear in alert. Even something as simple as adding the roll was a noticeable upgrade. All of this was in a 2001 game.

Hidden detail in MGRR : Monsoon's last words before getting zandatsu are different depending on how you play

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 08:59 AM PDT

If you fight Monsoon in an "honorable" way (not using electromagnetic grenades ) or having a high combat rank, He will say "No! Stop it!" in a panicked way.

If you fight Monsoon in a "dishonorable" way (using electromagnetic grenades) or having a low combat rank, He will say "Do as you please." in an almost uncaring way.

Did you guys ever notice that Big Boss carries two water bottles?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 06:48 AM PDT

Played and beat Metal Gear Solid 3 last night as a 23 year old who had only played MGSV and MGSRR and man oh man that was an amazing experience despite most of the controls being...odd, trying to play MGS2 now but just struggling with the fixed cam stuff

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 11:42 AM PDT

Edit: I should say for the first time ever with no knowledge of game and story elements

MGS3 Snake eater pixel art (by me)

You know, this excerpt from the Metal Gear NES manual doesn’t contradict anything in the main canon AFAIK, and (kind of a stretch) the “27 sisters” could mean sisters in arms...

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 11:58 AM PDT

I made a parody of Metal Gear in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord. Thought you guys would appreciate it - full video out tomorrow, here's the teaser!

What MGS2 feels like to me right now as I fight off the Ray's on my final EXTREME playthrough... I MUST PERSIST

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 04:40 PM PDT

Hi im new, and i wanted to ask something that is tormenting me about big boss...

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 04:06 PM PDT

I remember Big boss in MGS4 saying that his body gets stolen by Eva and Ocelot and reconstructed using parts from Solidus and Liquid bodies..

If Venom Snake is killed by Solid Snake, then how is it possible that BB has to be reconstructed in the first place?

also, another question: in MGS2, we hear about 12 members of the Wisemen's Committee being part of the patriots.. how is that possible if they died 100 years prior to the creation of the patriots themselves?

maybe I'm missing something, or maybe I don't remember something obvious for you guys..

sorry for my bad English, I'm Italian !! Thanks in advance for your answers.

I need help on MGS2HD Vita on Extreme

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 03:54 PM PDT

FATMAN IS IMPOSSIBLE. That's a fact. I don't know how to beat him. Every cheese I've seen doesn't work on the HD Vita version. He doesn't get into an endless loop where you can shoot him in the foot and he falls over. Doesn't work. Every other video I've seen requires running and gunning to consistently knock him down. Physically impossible on the Vita. You can't run and aim for SOME reason on this version. Why. At a certain point it's IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with him skating and even just focusing on diffusing bombs will get you killed. He'll give you, idk, 30 seconds to find and diffuse 6 bombs. How is that possible. I need help with this. Is it even possible on the Vita? I've played through the game 6 times to get all the dog tags and this thing is keeping me from play. PLEASE HELP

Metal Gear on the PS5 just wishful thinking?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 02:14 PM PDT

I really hope we do get one, and a good one... but considering the Konami Kojima situation... I guess the chances are slim to none?

Was there any game prior to MGS1 that had real-time cutscenes and voice acting of comparable quality?

    MGS5 and Repeating Missions

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 09:23 AM PDT

I am a few hours into MGS5, and maybe I'm just looking too far ahead here, but looking at a game guide I couldn't help but notice that after mission 31 or so, it seems that about half of the game consists of just repeating missions I've already done, but with enhanced difficulty.

I am not really good at games and have already struggled a bit with the game so far even without enhanced difficulty. I have a long way to go anyway, but I have played through MGS1-4 and PW since quarantine and am determined to finish off the last game in the series. But I am kind of demoralized to think that I'm not just going to have to beat 50ish hours worth of this game, but that the second half is essentially just the first half rehashed but harder.

Can anyone advise whether I'm really going to have to do that to get the real ending, and also whether it is as daunting as it seems?

How "VR Missions" could have worked in MGS4

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 09:51 PM PDT

Don't you feel bad that a game like MGS4 didn't get enough replay value outside of story mode? Sure there was the Virtual Range and MGO2, but when you think about it, more sneaking is awesome and always welcomed!

So MGO2 is shut down, and they release trophies for the game, but not only that, as compensation for the lack of MGO2, they give us the new "VR missions" as a thanks to the players.

The main manu is the same with an option that says MISSIONS under VIRTUAL RANGE, selecting it takes you to load a save file option.

    There are 5 game modes:

    PERFECT STEALTH

    • Player must sneak past PMC and Gekkos to the checkpoint without getting spotted, if spotted, it results in a Game Over, there is also a timer.

    TARGET CAPTURE

    • Player must capture both GA-KO and Kerotan and take them to the checkpoint, but must be careful with the PMC and Gekkos, however getting spotted does not result in a Game Over, but if the player gets shot while carrying either GA-KO or Kerotan, it results into a Game Over. Location of targets and checkpoints vary by session.

    BOMB DISPOSAL

    • Player must deactivate all 7 bombs located around the map with the C.Spray, but must be careful with the PMC and Gekkos, however getting spotted does not result in a Game Over. There is also a timer. Locations of bombs vary by session.

    THREAT SURVIVAL

    • Player must eliminate as much Haven Troopers as possible, including snipers, till they stop coming. There is also a timer.

    DWARF HUNTER

    • Player must find the hiding Dwarf Gekko while avoiding Haven Troopers, however getting spotted results in a Game Over, Haven Troopers are always in Evasion mode, the Gekko is harmless and would not cause and Alert mode if it sees you, but the gekko does not stay in one place and rolls around the map every 5 seconds, to win you must destroy it. There is also a timer.

All game modes are only The Boss Extreme by default.

After selecting a mode, you can then select a character to play with. Depending on the character, they have their own gear and equipment as well as camo percentage (which varies by map). However, in other use the characters, you must complete Story Mode first.

There are a total of 8 characters:

    SNAKE

    • Unlocked by default

    SNAKE (SUIT)

    • Unlocks after completing EPILOGUE

    RAIDEN

    • Unlocks after completing ACT 2

    MERYL

    • Unlocks after completing ACT 1

    AKIBA

    • Unlocks after completing ACT 3

    MEI LING

    • Unlocks after completing ACT 5

    OCELOT

    • Unlocks after completing ACT 5

    VAMP

    • Unlocks after completing ACT 4

After selecting a character, final step is to select a map to start in, there are a total of 11 maps, (note that all maps listed are not related to Story Mode, in order to have a more diverse experience, MGO2 maps based on Story Mode maps are not listed/playable):

    • BLOOD BATH

    • GROZNYJ GRAD

    • URBAN ULTIMATUM

    • AMBUSH ALLEY

    • COPPERTOWN CONFLICT

    • TOMB OF TUBES

    • FOREST FIREFIGHT

    • WINTER WAREHOUSE

    • SILO SUNSET

    • HAZARD HOUSE

    • OUTER OUTLET

Once the map is selected, the game finally loads.

To have 100% completion in MISSIONS, you must finish all game modes with every character in every map, getting 100% gives you the This Is Good, Isn't It trophy.
