MGSV Nonsense #1 - Hi, I've decided to slowly post my MGSV nonsense clips. You may or may not know me or the channel, but it doesn't matter. Carry on, nothing to see here.

Why are no friendly NPCs in mgsv?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 06:27 AM PDT

Unlike other games where it made sense for you to not have any allies, in mgsv you're literally in a conflict zone! Why couldn't they add mujahideen to Afghanistan, and they'd randomly attack Russian bases? Do the same with angola, have each PMC actually attack each other. It feels like a wasted opportunity.

Still waiting for the vanilla MGS2. Corona virus, lots of free time and the stimulus package are a powerful combination

I think MGSV has the most intriguing concept in the series

    Posted: 07 May 2020 03:23 PM PDT

    Hey r/metalgearsolid !

I've just finished MGSV and I really enjoyed the experience. It has the most layered and well crafted gameplay of any game I've ever played on a console.

I recognize though that the story is lacking by MGS standards, but I still love the game. However I think the concept of Venom being a body double and almost a vessel for us to experience our fandom is so clever and provocative. You've probably already heard this from other people in more eloquent ways but here are my thoughts:

To begin with, the idea that he was a medic (albeit one trained in warfare) that takes over the role of legendary soldier Big Boss after brainwashing, to me, is really tragic. This man lost his life, as it were, and now has no choice but to live one chosen for him. And yet despite losing his agency over life, when it's finally revealed that he's leading another man's life, and that other man designed it that way... he smiles. He's been duped, but... what is he gonna do, go back to being a medic? He's happy living the life of Big Boss. Because any man can fall in love with a morally wrong but thrilling lifestyle if he's conditioned to. It reminds me of Breaking Bad, where Walter White eventually grows to love his life as a criminal. Or how we, perfectly normal and functioning members of society, can grow to love the violence in our video games.

Secondly, I think on a meta level the concept of him being a double is so interesting because, as has been covered, it represents how we as players inhabit the role of these famous video game characters and contribute to their legend by carving our own legacy - while all the while having no real agency over the story. Even open world video games like MGSV have preset stories. That's why the karma system is so brilliant to me: It's a ruse. you can be a reprehensible murderer who kills animals and every Soviet soldier and develops nukes, or you can be a benevolent leader who rescues animals and through sheer force of personality convert those soldiers to your cause. And the game makes you FEEL like that's giving your true control over your destiny. Yet, you still have to be Big Boss. You still have to be the leader of a PMC. The agency we think we have is a facade.

Anyway I just thought I'd share with you some of my thoughts. The game as a whole is another solid entry in the series, but hardly the apex; yet the idea surrounding Venom Snake is something I'll never forget.

Imagine if the spoiler of mgs 2 was released prior to the actual release date?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 06:55 AM PDT

From what I've read. The last of us 2 has something along these lines. Loosely.

But I was wondering what if the entire ending of mgs 2 was completely released before the actual game came out? For one we would be saying who the hell is the blonde girl. But the story in general would be ruined. I have to imagine it must be crushing for the developers for this to happen.

    MGSV Nonsense #2 - Quality AI :)

Did you really think he could shot me?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 12:50 AM PDT

I still find it funny how the three big boss games (PO, PW, V) were marketed as "the missing link between *prior game* and MG1"

    Posted: 07 May 2020 12:58 PM PDT

At this point i would not even be surprised if this happen again. We will never have a proper missing link.

the closest thing was PW ending (PO ending is more Big Boss wondering what he should do, and so link more with PW) and it was changed due to V existing.

V just added even more questions in the 11 years time period between it and MG1.

I’m new to the franchise and I was wondering if MGS’s story ties in with the ‘Metal Gear’ NES games

    Posted: 07 May 2020 11:24 AM PDT

So I'm starting up a new channel with my sister later this year where we play games, chill, talk and laugh (similar to Game Grumps I guess)

One of the first games we will be playing will be a 'Metal Gear' game, but Idk if I should start with Metal Gear Solid on PS1 or Metal Gear 1 and 2 from the NES

So do they have a story tie in or is Metal Gear Solid 1 just more of a reimagining of the NES games

What would you suggest I play first?

I bought mgsV and im completely lost on how to play it.

    Posted: 07 May 2020 09:08 AM PDT

So im starting the first mission, and all I do is run around and everytime I get spotted, I just kill em in the slow mo.

Then I get to the prison, rescue the kid, and have no idea where to find paz. I also dont know any of the mechanics and had to figure out all by myself.

Do I have to "make my own fun", is the game just super easy, or does the first level just not show anything.

I really want to play this game, but I feel like im just too stupid.

Anyone else had this problem the first time?
