Remade some of the Metal Gear Solid menus items in pixel form. Really enjoyed this as a learning experience and recreating a small part of a game I love! Next I’m going to tackle some of the weapon menus. I'm on a very early journey into game art/development, feedback welcome and wanted!

    Favorite Metal Gear Poll

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 02:10 PM PDT

Sadly I could only put 6 options, so I chose what I consider the "True Metal Gears", being the massive machines that usually serve as a major plot point, or boss. I know I missed a lot of them (most notably Chrysalis, Pupa, Cocoon, and ZEKE), but again, I could only choose a few of them. If this poll proves popular enough, I'll figure out how to make a poll with ALL Metal Gears.

Where did all this GMP and PF points come from?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 01:03 PM PDT

After being away from this game for over 3 years I come back to find that I have 1.4M PF points, and $28M GMP. How did this happen? I only had about a hundred hours in the game before I left. I never did any FOB, and only just learned of the PF Virtual Battles. I'm just curious how and why this happened. Not that I'm complaining, just confused.

    Is Venom Snake a "villain"?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 12:25 PM PDT

MGSV should set the foundations for Big Boss and Venom to become villains. Revenge (against Skullface/XOF) was Big Boss and Kaz's story. However, Big Boss didn't give a fuck and chose to manipulate and deceive both his allies and enemies. Big Boss's apathy and manipulation in this game sets him to become the scheming villain of MG1/2.

How about our major protagonist and MG1 villain Venom? Is Venom evil? Bad? Well, the game repeatedly pushes you to do heroic things - saving animals, saving children, saving soldiers, etc... How does this man eventually become the Big Boss of MG1? I recall a lengthy post from a few years ago that claims Venom is a pacifist. I disagree, Venom, unlike the other Snakes is combat instincts personified. He is only animated during combat scenarios. Skullface's dialogue, no reaction. Quiet's torture, no reaction. Huey's trial, no reaction. Save a dog, of course, its to be used as a combat operative. Quiet, we'll use her as a combat operative. Saving soldiers from the battefield, nope we using them as combat operatives/support. Venom is only concerned with Diamond Dog's performance and combat. His blank slate partially reflect the goals of "us, the players" not as heroic figures but as gaming perfectionist and maximizers to expand Mother Base and complete missions. Unlike other Snakes Venom (in gameplay) solely defines Venom Snake.

Its not that Venom is strictly ruthless or cruel but rather his entire persona revolves around the militaristic nature of Diamond Dogs rather than any form of altruism. For example saving the children (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7JCMFsiqDo). If you notice, Venom was going to kill these kids until they offered their lives for Diamonds ("our client got outbid", "a fistful of diamonds for their lives"). Nonetheless, Kaz insists on having them killed ("they've got two options, heaven or hell" i.e. dying) - likely out of some form of mercy. However, Venom has other plans. He brings them back to Mother Base. But why? To make them soldiers for Diamond Dogs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyJVAkwzZm8). He is of course shut down by Kaz who insists they be re-integrated into society. Venom's repsonse: "We're running a daycare now".

Venom is already a villain. He meets many of the classical criteria: has an evil base where he's amassing an army, willing to use child soldiers, and collects nuclear arms (disarming nukes is unlikely to be cannon since MG1 Outer Heaven has nukes). His altruistic streaks seem to be motivated solely by a desire to better Diamond Dogs or those that are relevant to the mission.
