    Weapons in MGS3

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 02:02 PM PST

Anyone else thought it was really cool how they had the handkerchief & the cigarette spray as weapons in MGS3? They really make you think you're in some old spy movie set in the Cold War.

    MGSV - The Patriot

Hey there. Does anyone know if there is any way to unlock, or perhaps a mod that adds, The Patriot, the Boss' and Big Boss' original weapon? I can't find it anywhere on Nexus Mods and I'm kinda surprised at that, considering it's such a signifcant weapon in BB's history.

Metal Gear Solid came out two weeks after I got a PlayStation for my 10th birthday.

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 09:00 PM PST

What a great time that was. As much as I love the rest of the games in the series, nothing compares to the original for me, the atmosphere, boss fights, music, story, voice acting, everything. Just coming home from school on a Friday and knowing I was gonna be up all weekend playing it. I usually try to start playing it during the first snow of the winter, which is supposed to be this Saturday around here, and I haven't played it in a few years. Definitely looking forward to ordering a pizza on a cold snowy night, sneaking around in an Alaskan nuclear weapon storage facility and snapping necks!

Does the PSN Name Change Effect MGSV or Peace Walker?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 01:33 PM PST

When it first came out, I remember reading that the PSN name change could have some weird effects on games. Sometimes it would just use the account's old name but sometimes (particularly with PS3 games) it would cause you to lose progress or not work correctly with online features.
I'm wanting to know if anyone knows if this is the case for MGSV or especially Peace Walker. I'm pretty attached to the latter and want to make sure I wouldn't lose any data or be unable to get the rest of the online related Trophies and co-op stuff from it should I change my username.

Need help on MGS 2 Substance controller setting

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 09:58 AM PST

I installed this game a week ago and the graphic and control setting was all over the place. Fortunately, I found a patch called V's Fix not long after I install the game but I can't use my controller. So I just play w/ keyboard anyway. I was enjoying this game until I learned that I need controller to use Katana. Since my controller is unofficial USB Network Joystick, I need to find software to emulate it. Vfanss suggests player like me to use softwares called x360co and XOutput. I tried to use x360co but it doesn't help much. My last option is XOutput which no ".exe" file in it. I need any help to configure my controller to this game. And for Vfanss, if you read this, please help me

What is an ideal Metal Gear experience for you?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 06:13 PM PST

We all got varying thoughts and preferences about which MGS games or spinoffs tickle our pickles best. One question that sparked my whole desire to make this lil top down stealth action game was, "what is my most ideal video game?" And that stemmed from a less broad question, "what is my most ideal Metal Gear game?"

I'm not talking preexisting MGS games or spinoffs. I mean a supposed future entry; a new game, be it MGS6 or a whole new one-off spinoff game. What is the perfect version of that game to you? As in structure, gameplay length, presentation, setting, bosses, characters, plot, bonus content, etc.?

This is what a truly perfect Metal Gear game would be like for me:

    • A game structured like MPW & V. Mission oriented, but done in the same vein as MPW, as in you can pick and choose the mission as you see fit, but it's all continuous, like a linear journey, but with the caveat of cutscenes only being at the beginning or end of missions, not in between. This way, you can pick and choose the parts of a game you enjoy the most and skip the shit you dislike.

    • Objective oriented like V. Only, I'd want fewer rescue missions and more sabotage and assassination missions. I like having an actual goal, not the mission boiling down to reaching a goal. I'd rather that part come after the main objective is accomplished, and for that objective to be open-ended with a number of alternative scenarios.

    • I don't wanna go back to linear rooms. Honestly, most interior locations only ever really had atmosphere going for 'em, not actual, structurally strong level design. So I'd wanna see levels with the same design philosophy as the outposts of V. At the same time, however, I wouldn't wanna just be raiding outposts. I'd like a nice blend of things. Outposts, jungles, mountaintops, a few interior locations. Honestly, just having small, self-contained levels of different settings, locations, etc. would be perfect. You get a lot more coverage that way and everybody wins; those who like outposts and more claustrophobic settings. Whatever the case though, I would wanna see the same design philosophy of V on display; levels that have tons of ways from A to B, which provide plenty of open-ended gameplay opportunities, and accommodate both stealth and action.

    • A five to six-hour long campaign is all I'd really want, far as raw gameplay goes. I don't think Metal Gear needs to be open world, I liked what we got with V and don't think we really need more of it. Roughly 30 or so missions in the main story is all I think is needed, reserving ten for boss missions.

    • I'd rather just see a return to classic unlocking weapons and gear you can use in your loadouts whenever. Something of a cross between MGS3 and MPW; where all the items are in the levels, but once you unlock 'em, you can pick and choose in loadouts before each mission.

    • For a gameplay model, I'd wanna see V's game model return, with some of Surviveance's mechanics. Its health system (not its fucking dogshit stamina management) was a nice compromise between classic MGS health and lite regenerative health. Surviveance had great dodge and grenade mechanics that future, conventional games should all adopt. And especially its skill tree. Kill subclasses, make the skills you unlock for survivor the default, and have all the extra skills lumped into one giant skill tree to let you create your own custom Snake build. That way, you can switch between swan dives and the classic rolls, different CQC options, etc.

    • I'd want a cross between MGS3's bosses and V's bosses. MGS3 had more creative and varied bosses, while V's were more open-ended and accommodating. Something in between is perfect to me. Ten wholly distinct boss fights, all open-ended, and all giving you the option to play action-y or stealthy. And at least two encounters with the main villain.

    • Far as story goes, I don't give a shit as long as it's self contained and not at all connected to MGS. Solid Snake would be the lead, he'd be young Snake, and like Ghost Babel or MGA1, all the Outer Heaven shit happened, and doesn't matter. It's literally just background noise for Snake while the shit at hand would be what really matters. I wouldn't want any goddamn codec calls or twenty minute exposition dumps. Literally just two or so hours of cutscenes to tell a straightforward plot about a bad guy with a genuinely understandable grievance, and a protagonist who actually calls people out on their bullshit instead of standing around getting talked at. Also, no ten minute cutscenes except the very end. The very end of the game should be the only time there's a long cutscene; to give the journey and the 'after' a proper payoff...Deus Ex.

    • I wouldn't want any returning characters except Snake. Have whole new supporting teams, a proactive main villain like Higgs; someone you fight multiple times, who is just a joy to watch every time he's on screen, and is just loaded with personality and charm. I'd also wanna see underlings in the same vein as the Cobras. Not these assholes with ten minute death scenes. Just crazy assholes who show up, act silly, have a cool boss fight, then explode to death like gentlemen.

    • A cross between Ghost Babel's and MPW's bonus content would be the dream. Ghost Babel had great VR missions that didn't game over whenever you were spotted, many of which were really addictive. And it had modifiers for every single mission. MPW, meanwhile, reused levels in a great way by providing 'em different objectives, some goofy, some practical and fun. A cross of that would be ideal too.

    • Also bring back level music. I love V's soundtrack and the way it uses audio cues to let you know audibly what the situation is devolving into. I love having different level themes for each mission more tho.

    • No multiplayer. Fuck MGO in its entirety. If there's any sorta bonus mode, mission maker is all I would ever need for the rest of my life, doubly so if you can make custom guards and bosses. (This could be an entire game tbh. Far Cry 5 did it.)

So that's what the dream game looks like to me. I know it ain't gonna happen, that's why I'm working my damnedest to make a game like that now.

I just realized I don't know how to beat Solidus with the Katana. This is my third play through on hard mode.

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 08:26 PM PST

I never bothered learning what moves to do with the Katana when he's in a certain position. Mostly because I thought, and still think, that beating the shit out of him with your bare hands is way more badass. And the Katana in this game kinda sucks. It's slow and maybe it's just me, but I can never tell where it's going to hit. And the melee feels much more reliable and smoother than the sword.

Now you got a guy in a Hentai Tentacle suit of power Armor, this suit can open forth the gates of hell and spew forth fire like a god damn volcano. Also he has 2 katanas because fuck you. Now you could take out your very own katana. Have a little Samurai fight in New York. Pretty cool I guess. Or you could put that shit away and kick his fuckin' ass into the ground. If you walk into a bar and say you killed The Hulk with a gun, the chicks gonna think you needed assistance and you're a weakling. You say you spanked him with your hands, instant pussy.

But now that I'm on hard mode I've died like 10 times and I think I should use the Katana but I have no idea how to even swing it please help.

So while Venom was out on the battlefield risking his life and spreading the legend...

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 07:11 PM PST

All naked snake did was design the plans for a base/building complex? Sounds kind of lame when you think about it, all you need is an architect and a construction company. Does not seem so epic compared to everything venom snake was doing at the time.

Say what you will about the 3ds port of mgs 3. But at least holding people up didn't take an hour to learn, with multiple kills.

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 08:54 PM PST

In mgs 3 3ds there's button prompts for what to do to an enemy. Like in peace walker, circles show up for damaging enemies. Blue circles mean stamina and red means health. Now you can strangle a guard without accidentally snapping their god damn neck. There's a button prompt for which button to interrogate a guard, meaning you can get your bearings on what you can do to a guard without accidentally slitting their throats because no buttons are told their meaning unless you go into a random menu on the start screen. It's infinitely better than the hold up system in even the Hd versions of 2-3-peace walker, and I really want to know why they didn't just update these into mgs 3 hd.

    Mgsv spoilers [spoilers]

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 07:17 PM PST

Ok so if you're here then you know that big boss wears diamonds into battle because of what happened on that platform. My question is why? If it was an honor thing then it should be on dress uniforms held in mother base. But did you know snake prides himself on stealth. And did you also know diamonds reflect light like really well. So why does he take them out on missions?

Favorite order to play the series?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 10:04 PM PST

I have done both release order and chronological order and I personally prefer the release order simply because of the gameplay and I always accidentally try to do something in mgs1 that you can do in mgs3 if I play it chronological order. Do you guys prefer release order or chronological order or some other order?
