    Death Stranding first impressions

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 06:09 AM PST

I believe many people on this sub might be curious about DS, given it's from the same creator(s), and some of the gameplay even reminds of MGSV, so here is it.

I've played the first ~3-4 hours, currently at level 25.

    Some remarks:

    - The trailers weren't lying. The story is very quirky science fiction.

    - There are relatively long cutscenes. Yes, we have a new Kojima movie.

    - It does a good job in keeping you engaged and wanting to advance the story.

    - The motion capture is insanely good. There are no pre-rendered scenes. Most cutscenes blend right into gameplay (like we're used to from MGSV).

    - The sound design is immersive. It pays off to play on a home-theatre or high-end headphones.

    - I believe this is the first game where your main challenge is the environment. You have to plan your route. You have to take calculated risks. You have to constantly manage your balance, even. As someone who practices mountaineering I enjoyed this innovation in a game a lot.

    - If you don't plan your logistics, take the shortest route, you'll be back-and-forth a lot. The theme of the game is isolation, and when you go out in the open it truly feels that you need to prepare for a trip, even your boots wear out, and you're fucked if you don't plan accordingly. Apparently some reviewers missed this strategy aspect is a core part of the game, and expected the usual open-world, fast-travel, run & gun.

    - There's stealth and combat. It feels a lot like MGSV.

    - There's a terror game component that keeps you on your toes at times.

    - There's an innovative multiplayer mechanic.

    - I was curious to see how Kojima would deal having to work on a new IP, if the team would be creative and manage to create a believable universe at the same time. I don't know what drugs they used at Kojima Productions, but they did it again.

I would say the game so far manages to remind me of MGS series (w/ the surrealist science fiction), MGSV (gameplay feel, stealth mechanics), Dark Souls ("phantom" multiplayer, co-op), maybe Minecraft and even Journey, along some very original ideas on how the terrain, rain, weight and other physics affect your avatar.

If I had to give it a genre, it would be "open-world survival RPG, stealth, strategy, asynchronous co-op".

My verdict: I'm not sure yet if it'll be GOTY like MGSV, I'm not sure if it's for the average gamer even, but if you are bored with AAA games I believe you'll have fun with it. Feels very fresh while borrowing proven mechanics from other games (both MGS and others).

Was Big boss sincere in his message to...

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 01:21 PM PST

venom snake? At the ending of mgsv... when he is thanking him and tells him that they are both big boss, is he being sincere about this, or is he only saying it to keep venom at his side. Do you think naked snake considered venom his equal? or just a convenient decoy, to be discarded if the need arises.

I just finished the Metal Gear Solid series and now I'm sad.

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 03:19 AM PST

I started with Metal Gear Solid on PS3 and quickly fell in love with the story, gameplay and especially the characters.

Moved across to the 360 that I had to borrow just to play the HD collection of 2 and 3. I've read that 2 didn't have the greatest reception initally due to playing as Raiden but I really enjoyed the game overall. It was sort of unfortunate I played 3 straight after because it just blew 2 out of the water, the entire game was just really well done from start to finish.

Finally I moved back to where I started my play through with MGS4 on the PS3 and having spent months enjoying the story, the characters, the settings, I'm really sad it's over.

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this other then to say I really appreciated this series as a whole, each game wasn't afraid to try different things (looking at you, you damn leaches) and I really enjoyed the breaking of the fourth wall (in particular the disc 2 joke in MGS4).

I think I'm now off to youtube to watch some story breakdowns to make sure I truly appreciate everything that transpired through out the game. Cheers for reading!

Can someone explain what the hell happened at the end of MGS 5? (Spoilers) please, I need this.

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 10:35 AM PST

So I finished the quiet ending where she goes away and leaves the tape. Also I should note I've only played peace walker and phantom pain. I don't fully understand the mgs lore. I get the macro points of it though

Question 1: I don't fully understand the English vocal strain. If she speaks then shouldn't big boss be infected with the virus?

Question 2: is she gone forever? Did hideo intend her to be gone forever? From what I can tell from Google there IS a way to get her back but if the story intends her to be gone forever then I'd rather just not play with her. For story emotional reasons

After the man who saved the world ending.

Question 3: what the fuck was that? Lifterally what the fuck, that's so much to take in. I'm so confused. So I was playing as Ishmael the whole time?

I was so engrossed in the game because when i was younger I poured my heart and soul into peace walker on the psp. After the XOF blows up peace walker mother base the whole rebuilding thing in mgs 5 was so amazing to me.

Question 4: So the big boss who built the peace walker mother base is not the same person who build the phantom pain motherbase?????? I tried reading the ign wiki but it made me more confused

Question 5: which big boss was listening to which big boss in the man who sold the world tape?

Question 6: so I am not the same big boss who killed his mentor?

Guys I'm really fucking confused and overwhelmed with emotions please explain to me.

Some questions about mgs3s story (spoilers)

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 03:50 AM PST

Why did the boss have small launchable American Nukes with her at the bridge? What happened to the second one, as it was supposed to be part of the mission to recover it? Why are the cobras supporting Volgin if the boss was undercover? How did Eva get the fake philosophers legacy and what was the other thing she mentioned, that is in her hand in the flashback of her in the Alaskan safehouse?

Also, why does Zero consider the boss a traitor before the US government spins the story to save international relations? I assume she was deep undercover?
