Posted: 09 Dec 2020 06:55 AM PST I always assumed The Boss is just so good at what she does that she actually did know just from the sound of his voice. She doesn't. She knows because she's nearby, presumably watching him. The game has been out for fifteen years and that one thought made me suddenly sit bolt upright and unable to sleep. Surely I'm not the last person to work this out...? [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Dec 2020 03:11 PM PST *Sorry for my gramatical errors, english is not my primary language but I'll do my best* Big Boss is not a villain in Metal Gear and I've got many reasons why, in fact the franchise is not about good and evil, it's about people who fight for what they believe in, even other "villains" like Liquid, Solidus and Ocelot are not evil, just ruthless antagonists (the only guys I would call villains are Volgin, Skull face and maybe Vamp) but let's get back to Big Boss. "You can say he's a villain because he was the villain of metal gear 1 and 2", well, at the time in 1987 and 1990 it could be true, but after MGS2 we know how the patriots manipulated Solid Snake into believing Big Boss was a madman who wanted to destroy the world, "oh but he gives that monologue in the ending of Metal Gear 2" like I said, if we consider only MG 1 and 2 we could call him an evil villain, but the series is full of retcons and only taking that monologue in the ending of MG 2 is superficial, shallow and in practice you're throwing the concept of outer heaven and the existence of the patriots in the trash. "But Miller says in MG 2 that he is a monster!" Until Phantom Pain we never knew what happened to Miller stay against Big Boss, but now we know that Miller became a personal enemy of big boss (what Big Boss did to Miller is not right but no one is perfect, yes he fucked up, but that ain't reason to call him villain). "But he forced Madnar and Marv to work for him" well, yes, but let's use think about something, imagine that a legendary hero and soldier called you to a corner and said "Boy, you're on the wrong side, the government is controlled by an IA, you are just being a pawn of this IA so no one can threaten it's control over the world, come with me and let's explode the US!" would you believe him? Obviously not, it is way easier to just force scientists to work for you than sit for hours and explain them the whole situation, and even so, who would be willing to believe that the world's superpower is actually a machine? "Oh, but Big Boss used children as soldiers" not quite actually, Big Boss never used children as soldiers, in fact he saved them, gave them shelter and when they grew up they CHOOSE to fight for Big Boss, Sniper Wolf, Gray Fox and Kyle Schneider are good examples of people who Big Boss saved and started working for him willingly. "But he killed Zero in MGS4 for vengeance and had regrets of being a villain" when he finally meets solid snake in the ending of MGS4 he calls him son, says he always respected him as a soldier and advised him to not spend the rest of his life fighting, and that's what he regrets for, fighting his whole life and forgeting to live, now tell me, where is the big boss full of hatred that many people say? The answer is simple, he never existed, he was in a coma until then and for the love of god don't say he regreted it during the coma. And about Zero, it wasn't for revenge, more like for mercy, Zero had been in a vegetative state for 30 years, he had no more reason to live in suffering like that. "But Big Boss had nuclear weapons and metal gears" that's true, but let's remember that he was fighting the patriots/cipher who controlled other nations and armies, possessing metal gears and nukes was the only way to not get crushed, saying that Big Boss is a villain because he had nukes and metal gears is like saying a cop is a bad person because he carries weapons and batons. "Big Boss killed many people in his life, therefore he is evil" there is a guy on youtube who made the body counts of big boss and solid snake (he only counts canon kills, the ones you're forced to kill like the soldiers in MGS 1 and kill atempts like Volgin or Quiet who didn't die but Big boss had the intention to kill) and the results are that Big Boss killed or at least tried to kill 13 people, while Solid Snake kills 71 ONLY in MG 1, 2 and MGS1, if we count MGS 2 and 4 the number is even higher, ok, if Big Boss is a villain because he killed people, what the hell Solid Snake is? "Kojima in the interviews about MGSV PP said that game would show how Big Boss became a villain and even compared him to Walther White" that's true too, but Kojima was actually trying to lure everyone away form the plot twist in MGSV, saying that the game would show how he became a villain was just a ruse, besides, Kojima really likes hollywood movies and we all know the hollywood type of villain, the guy that makes his soldiers fear him, constantly betrays his allies, etc, while we know Big Boss is not like that, when did you see Big Boss do something close to Ocelot betraying almost everyone in the series? Alright, that's the end of my text, sorry for it's size but Metal gear has a complicated story and that's why I love it so much, you can spend hours talking about it. The guy I talked about who made the body count also made an 1 hour video about the same topic, why Big Boss is NOT a villain, unfortunately the video is in portuguese and it doesn't have subtitles, so if you speak portuguese feel free to visit his channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vqCckikMLA [link] [comments]

Just beat MGS1 for the first time! Posted: 09 Dec 2020 09:11 AM PST What a experience, love the story! Man was that game kinda hard tho, I played on normal and got my ass handed to me on the rex and liquid fist fight. Glad I finally got to give this series a shot and will play mgs2 tmr! Also is mgs2 difficult or does the series get easier as you play through them? [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Dec 2020 11:02 AM PST Infiltrated the base from ground floor and didn't get "Miller's" codec call. It's supposed to start when crawling through airducts on second floor. Haven't heard from "Miller" at all. It's possible to miss those codec's just by going through lower vents? [link] [comments]
