Made a lengthy Phantom Pain art analysis video some time ago. Maybe some of you will like it.

Can you play tapes whenever you want?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 02:31 PM PDT

Recently started my MGSV journey, and I found a cassette tape of Take On Me. Am I able to play tapes whenever, or only when I'm in my ACC?

World building realization: We’ve been building MSF, Diamond Dogs and Outer Haven since Portable Ops.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 05:47 AM PDT

Meaning the soldiers we've been recruiting since we were at the San Hieronymo Peninsula, could canonically carry all the way until the events of Metal Gear and Outer Haven.

Obviously there are some stipulations with XOF destroying MSF, but that just led to them splitting into two different factions that became even more powerful.

We could have our head canon that some of our favorite soldiers from the beginning of Big Boss's adventures, could have survived and remained loyal through everything. They could even represent the enemy soldiers that Solid Snake faces in the original Metal Gear games.

There's no technical way to represent this, but next time you go through the Big Boss saga, find a couple of soldiers you really like, give them the same name and try and make them look as close as possible throughout all the games. It'll make it feel much more personal, and that you're actually building the world of Metal Gear, and Outer Haven.

Portable Ops > Peace Walker > Ground Zeroes > Phantom Pain

TL;DR: you are actually building the world of Metal Gear and Outer Haven. Soldiers since the beginning of Naked Snake's adventures, could realistically trace their stories all the way from Portable Ops, all the way to the original Metal Gear.

I'm currently playing all MGSs with walk-throughs - if there's one MGS that I shouldn't use a walk-through for, which one should it be?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 03:55 PM PDT

As the title suggests, I'd somehow managed to never play a MGS game, so recently got a hold of a PS3 and MGS1, MGS HD collection, and MGS4. I'll get Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain for PS4 after finishing them.

Given that the controls of the older games (and fixed cameras) are a bit lacking, I have really enjoyed playing through the games, appreciating the writing, style, tone, originality in game play, and their place in the history of gaming etc, but while using walk-through guides to move through them fairly quickly. I'm up to MGS3 now, and am enjoying the control mechanics a lot more than the first 2, although I find the shooting still a bit gammy.

At some point, though, I want to ditch the walk-throughs and finish a game myself, as it will be quite a different experience. If I only have time to choose one MGS to play through without any assistance, which would you recommend (taking into account both tightness and smootheness of controls, and the enjoyment of discovery/puzzle elements), out of MGS3, MGS4, Peace-walker, Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain?

As said in a codec call in rising Raiden says his name in someway means lightning bolt, and lightning bolts are technically plasma. Does this mean that raiden is plasma snake? (Still on the search for gas snake though)
