Just finished first-timing MGS 3 - I think I might have missed this one's point

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 02:03 PM PST

I went into this series vaguely aware of certain beats, including that MGS 3 would tell the origin of the series' primary villain, Big Boss, and how his experiences wth government meddling jaded him, eventually leading to him wanting to bring down the establishment.

What lost me was how much of this story read like just another mission, in a way. It read much like MGS 1 did, with the greater stringpulling going unknown for most of the story. The problem here is setting it in the past. I kept thinking there was gonna be something more to the stakes than the threat of nuclear war because the existence of MGS 1 and 2 confirm that obviously doesn't happen.

I thought by like, the mid-way point, perhaps Snake would start growing distanced from his commander as he'd realise how cynical some of his orders are, and he'd start questioning his chain of command more. The focus for the viewer would become less about the world-changing event in the background (which we already know doesn't happen) and more about Big Boss and how he came to be. But that's reserved until effectively the last hour. It just feels like, narratively, almost the entirety of the rest of the game was redundant.

Now, this might be on me for going in with assumptions, and perhaps there's some other subtext and purpose I've been missing (please, let me know if there's something I'm failing to appreciate here).

What would the boss think about How Big boss turned out?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 02:53 PM PST

You know, considering that she believed in peace, which is exactly what his apprentice rejects, what would she think about what big boss became ( a war monger). Dissapointment, repulsion?

MGS essential doesnt work on PS1 but works on PS2

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 01:41 PM PST

I have the essential collection which came with 1, 2 and 3. 1 is in a DVD case but it is still the PS1 game. However my original PS1 won't load it. It goes to the CD menu but then if you let it sit it will load. Hoewver the intro scene keeps freezing and displaying the CD logo in the top right corner.

The game runs fine on my PS2. PS1 runs fine with Xenogears.

MGSV for people entering the series a good idea?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 09:41 AM PST

Hi, I've always been interested in getting into the MGS series. I was just wondering if starting with MGSV would be a good idea or not. My main reason for starting with MGSV is that I don't have a PS3 to play the older games, and my family wouldn't be willing to let me get one seeing as I already have a PC.

I should mention that I do enjoy stories in games very much, which is why I haven't been getting into the series as soon as I'd like. But considering that the Steam Winter sale is on, I do want to at least consider getting the definitive edition.

    Thanks for reading.

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 09:17 AM PST

Recently I lost Quiet, I have checked online and found out that you can get her back by downloading patch 1.0.6, but I can't find the game's version anywhere. Can someone help me ? I'm on PS3 by the way.
